This is such a sad myth clung to.

Chiarelli could have offered more.

Chia's offer was better than Calgary's as is. But GMs can do whatever they want, so whatever.

Sweeney chose the worse offer due to some combination of spite and/or hard negotiation tactics. Either way, he took the worse of 2 deals on the table which isn't a good thing for the Bruins.

People proposing Spooner back to Boston are crazy, especially those saying he'll play center. Spooner is not an NHL center, nor will he ever be. He has his shot in Boston and they've moved on, and he's done nothing to prove he's changed his game.

Neither is Sam Bennett.

So apparently the purpose of the trip was to scout the Edmonton Oil Kings for the draft, and he decided to go to an NHL game while there.

I don’t think this is good for Boston. Is this good Wally? I’m not feeling it.

Im on the fence. It took many years for the Bs to find a PMD.
It could be a case of filling one hole ( top 6) and creating another (PMD).
Wild card is what will Krug cost for next contract?

He tried to pressure the bruins into a trade with a threat of an offer sheet and it backfired on him

Chia.

Sweeney was concerned that Hamilton, who is scheduled to be a restricted free agent on July 1, would have gotten a large offer sheet from another club that the Bruins wouldn’t have been able to match. Instead, Boston preferred to trade him for a package of draft picks that was better than the compensation on an offer sheet would have been.

Same picks as Calgary offered but our picks would have had the Bruins picking higher in the rounds if I remember correctly
Good job

The picks Chiarelli wanted to trade Boston to avoid an offer sheet that probably was never coming was for the current draft (big plus) and better than the required comp package

16
33
57 from Habs

16 & 33 went to Islanders for Reinhart which had Glorydaze calling me up and starting the calll with not ‘hello Dan, but ‘IS CHIARELLI f***ING OUT OF HIS MIND’

Islanders took Barzal and used 33 to move up and grab Beauvilier

Boston ended up with

15 Senyshyn
45 JFK
52 Lauzon

The big advantage in the Edmonton offer over Calgary was 45 to 33

Ironically there is still a decent chance the Bruins 3 picks end up when history is written the better value

It's been proven the offers were, at worst, equal value. It wasn't to spite Chiarelli personally.

It isn't equal value if you know the picks you get in one deal are higher.

The 1st in the other offer is higher even if only one spot. That has a lot of value regardless of whom was picked there!

Nurse probably had the value of one of those mid 1st round picks, (perhaps less in that draft). I don't think Nurse plus was absurd at all.
