Assuming she's in some sort of combat role, I like that they've casted athletic women like her and Gina Carano in those roles.

I've never heard of her before.

Do you have a problem with 100lb ladies who have never lifted a weight, let alone a cheeseburger, being cast as expert fighters in Star Wars?

My take is just have a fight style match the physical capabilities, within reason, I'll give some slack since Hollywood still wants a pretty face to sell tickets. In Star Wars, being a force-user is an out, so they can still have their models be the action hero too. It's not unlike Chris Pratt transforming his body from Parks and Rec Andy Dwyer to his now action hero physique, I'd hate fat Andy being the lead in Jurassic World or Guardians.

Yea. I'll never understand people attacking actors for their character's actions. Like, I get people going after celebs that have gone out of their way to make inflammatory statements, but attacking someone because of something the fictional character they played did - is just so mind boggling stupid it almost defies belief.

While this stuff is always horrible I'd imagine it was worse for Jake Lloyd because the poor kid still had to go to school and probably took a lot of grief there simply from kids being kids.

Speaking of guest stars, watching the trailer right now hell yeah it's subtle but that's The Hu I'm hearing! I love that these guys are getting even more involved in Star Wars, they're a Mongolian rock band who EA brought in to do the in-game music for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. These guys are awesome:

Disclaimer: I hate the sequel trilogy and am not the biggest fan of the Lego movies, so take this with a large grain of salt if you like either.

I just watched The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special. I think that I actually prefer the original Holiday Special. At least that reminds me of the original trilogy (in between Bea Arthur and Wookiee porn). This reminded me of the sequel trilogy and what Disney has done to Star Wars. It involves Rey (yeah, I was hoping that we were done with her, too) traveling through time to countless Star Wars movie moments in order to parody them, make her a part of them and have her meet seemingly every character to ever be in Star Wars. It leans exceedingly hard on nostalgia, but it all felt so forced to me and the humor is at the level of a children's cartoon, not something that an adult is liable to find very funny, IMO. It seemed like it was designed for parents to watch with their kids, which is the target audience of Disney+, so maybe I should've known better. I was just hoping for something better and more enjoyable for all ages, at least at the level of the Lego movies (which I thought were decent, even if I didn't love them). Bigger Lego or Disney Star Wars fans may well enjoy this special more, but it's something that I, personally, am going to try to forget, like the sequel trilogy.

I have a hard time believing any statement that says "I prefer the Star Wars Holiday Special more than X".

That movie was such a freaking mess in virtually every conceivable way. And not even in a "this is ironically funny" way, like The Room.

I finally watched it for the first time a year or so ago and I have to agree. I thought for sure I'd get some kitschy so-bad-its-good pleasure out of it, but I really didn't. It's just thoroughly bad and unpleasant.

It's a mess, but there's some nostalgia to be had if you grew up in that era. I have a hard time believing that you don't understand how that can be, as if there's nothing from your own childhood that you have a soft spot for despite it being awful.

The sequel trilogy is absolute hot, flaming garbage. The Thrawn trilogy, (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command) is the true sequel trilogy that we never got, and likely never will get. On top of this, there is the much, much larger overall plot of Palpatines long con to organize the entirety of the galaxy to defend against the threat from the Yuuzhan Vong.

I haven't seen it yet to comment, but there's basically two brands of Lego animation: the big movies which are great, and the TV kids show which... I can't comment the quality for kids but lets just say they're unwatchable for an adult. I've seen an episode or two of the latter and the really lean into the 'today's kids are constantly distracted/have no attention span' thing and write the show as a series of short scenes that jump all over the place with little to no coherency or story structure.

I'd guess with the Holiday Special as it's marked for kids it leans towards the latter style, with maybe a bit more coherency as there's some structure for following the general timeline.

Have you ever seen the movie Frosty the Snowman?

I loved that movie as a kid and it was a big part of my Christmas memories. I can't even watch it now even out of nostalgia because of how terrible it is.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to convey, that it felt more like a kids TV show than the Lego movies. What you said--a series of short scenes that jump all over the place with little coherency--describes the special very well. There's also a lot of quick movement and rapid dialogue, so I would agree that it seems made for the lower attention span crowds. The clever humor from the movies that adults could appreciate is gone, as well. I'm not criticizing it for being targeted at kids, especially since I consumed stuff like the Ewoks movies when I was a kid, but I was hoping that it might be a little more for us grown-up kids than it was.

Yikes... and I thought that I was sounding like a curmudgeon.
