I had a feeling we were gonna score one more on that shift.

Outside of our hot start this season has been nothing but ineptitude and futility. In my eyes keeping Hynes (or any of the coaching staff for that matter) is indefensible at this point, but I know they'll all be back next year, with Cammalleri & Lovejoy still logging significant minutes.

I hope to god i'm wrong, but I get the impression I won't be.

I know Lovejoy is absolutely terrible but it's not like there's much better options.

Greene gets the most TOI
Severson averages about 20 seconds less a game
Moore averages a minute less
Merrill probably should get more but after that there's really nobody

Santini? I'd be ok with it but not a lot of coaches are giving a kid the tough minutes over a vet unless he's a stud

Prout? Lol

Helgeson? Auvitu? They can't play their way out of Albany

Our defense is horrific, and if you really want to blame someone blame Shero for signing this bum.

there is no way hynes can be head coach next season.

what a horrible year this has been.

I don't know how they could sell Hynes to fans next year.

I haven't been to a game this year and if he's here next year, I won't then either

Scotty Bowman isn't getting much more out of this team

I really don't get why people can't just admit our roster is complete trash minus a few guys. Our bottom
6 is AHL caliber at best and our blue line is arguably the worst in the NHL. Is Hynes the answer? Probably not, but this team's problems are much more due to lack of talent than coaching.

Feels like they need to nuke the coaching staff before we begin next year, let's hope Shero will have the good sense to see it no other way.

Yeah, you can't expect Hynes to make chicken salad out of chicken **** but like others have said, how the hell do you sell this product next season? I mean the results have been so bad. So so bad. Like really ****ing bad. At the very least, a new staff gives the illusion that the team is trying to change things even if it doesn't make much actual difference.

Personally, I think we're screwed for at least another season or two so the coaching is largely irrelevant to me right now. That said, I won't shed any tears for Hynes if he's let go.

Arda actually knows that Patrik Elias and John MacLean are 1 and 2 in all time scoring for the Devils.

Think the production crew had to slip him a note for that?

Agreed completely. Hynes being here next season won't ruin it for me but obviously I won't expect anything from the team. If nothing changes next year(which it probably won't) then he'll be fired. What needs to happen is Shero addressing the blue line either through trade or FA. If we don't upgrade the D then were absolutely screwed again, even if Schneider bounces back.

Face facts boys, the roster is what's really wrong here, the coaching isn't holding this team back. Besides finishing 29th is better than finishing 24th.

This is how I feel also, although a bit more anti-Hynes than you are.

I'll give him one more year, but he hasn't instilled any confidence in me whatsoever.

It's very hard to try to understand what the hell he's trying to do here.

If we don't improve next year on his first season here, it will be a crime to bring him back for the fourth season. Then Shero also deserves some heat. And if we don't move up a few spots in scoring, Shero absolutely deserves some of the heat too.

Again, very fair point here.

Honesty I'd get rid of Hynes if we're marooned in the cellar again come December, and then all the heat should go on Shero. A rebuild like this always takes more time than fans have patience for and almost all of this isn't on Shero but improvement really needs to be made next season. But as I said before, if we're still rolling with this same D next season you can expect another awful showing.

But Hynes can try to teach fundamentals:

Sticks on the ice in the D zone.
Understanding defensive lane assignments during odd man rushes.
How to block a shot but not screen the goalie.
Make the safe play if you're the last guy back.
If you're struggling to get shots on goal, just throw the puck at the goalie, even at bad angles.

I don't see Hynes teaching any of this.

If Moore and Lovejoy can't figure out how to not be disasters by this point in their careers they're never going to learn.

I agree with the offense generating more shots but it's not so much about throwing shots it's about having players who can create space which nobody on this team besides Hall can do consistently.

Absolutely agree defense in terms of free agency should be priority 1 ... the Devils need to go hard after shattemkitk I do think another year older w Santini. Merrill. Severson. Will help. The risky thing going into to next year is all 3 of them have the potential to be solid 3/4. But they could easily turn into bottom pair at best guys so we have to lock a good fa. A top 5 pick and 2 solid signings this summer

I think he needs to address the scoring too. We're pathetic at offense and never get any better from year to year. If Colorado didn't have a historically bad year, we would have finished dead last in scoring again this year.

A defensemen or two that can actually help the offense/breakout/transition would definitely help. Just adding a mostly defensive defenseman isn't gonna help at all though.

We need an anchor on D. We have a couple of decent guys but not a guy we can totally rely on. I love Andy Greene but he'll be 35 in October and without Larsson wasn't great this year(this isn't totally on Greene, Lars is a beast). We can't have Lovejoy and Moore averaging 19-20mins a night, just cannot happen. Moore at least provides offense but is a train wreck defensively, he should be a PP specialist who gets sheltered 3rd pairing mins.
