Nice that he scored a simple goal that B smith could have scored but whatever. He still made numerous head scratching plays with the puck

lol that is anything but a layup, it's a hard pass and the goalie is still taking up a lot of the net, and also he had to have the awareness to get to the net at the time he did.

I also don't think Holtz had a great game but he made some nice plays and that goal is not a tap in at all

I can't help but think of @JrFischer54 when Bill said (following the breakaway with Bratt and Toffoli) he didn't fault Bratt for passing it to the one who is leading the Devils in Goals...

But Dougie though….he really seems to have his head up his ass a lot of times, and combining that with his slow speed it’s just…ugly. I can easily envision those last few years of his contract being a real nightmare.

There's a lack of urgency to his game as well, and my guess is that helped wear out his welcome with his previous coaches.

The trip in the 3rd looked lazy as heck.

I was very against the idea that this was going to be a terrible contract at some point, but the start of this season has me concerned.

Both. Relevant in attempting to take out a star player (something else) in order to help win a game. I used the Crosby example from the playoffs two seasons ago, which in that case could be argued as a turning point in the series.

FINALLY a game where I could watch (DVR), know the outcome and be f'n happy watching it (instead of looking at the final score, seeing another loss, and just deleting it and doing something else with my time).

Even more happy that Bratt woke up.

Saw the Toffoli goal and interesting how no one is mentioning that Toffoli almost scored again later on, on a 2-on-0 break with Bratt, missed, then got the Puck back from Bratt (again) and had another opportunity.

When Bratt is on, he is ON.

Noticed that Palat was there consoling him.

And a bit later, it would be Palat passing the puck around the end boards (in the offensive zone) to Dawson who makes the great pass to Holtz for the goal.

That was probably the best 60 minute effort of the season so far. One guy stuck out like a sore thumb though – Dougie was just horrific. I don't think I have ever seen a defenseman make as many horrendous mistakes in the first 10 minutes of a game causing odd men rushes again and again. He settled down somewhat, but the penalty was bad as well and there were a couple of turnovers later on as well, especially that one pass into the skates in the third. Just bad. Miller was good though, so why not give Hamilton a day off on Saturday?

Merdawg needs a light of hope.

For me the light was how fantastic the team played. Guys seemed to be very proud on how they played, and maybe Merdawg could be too, it was a sweet win afterall.
