That’s an understatement. I went to his fight log and watched the majority of his fights. He gets beat up regularly. Really bad fighter.

Keep the mitts on, son.
The more important for youre teammates is to show that you care for them and go regardless of the outcome. I know i speak for myself but when shit was happening when i was playing it give me a boost anyway. Plus wana get that son of a b**** more.

Yeah, the fight card is depressing both statistically and in video form.

I am still pretty confused on this signing. More so than any other. I am glad they got size, but how much is this realistically going to improve this defense? We need a guy who can intimidate with that size and I am not sure Forbort fits the bill. And having to think of it not working out and being stuck with the contract sucks. It’s not an albatross by any means, but it’s certainly a serious commitment to a player who will have a lot of expectation. My concern is the expectation will be outside his capabilities. And that will become evident early on.

I understand you have outside market forces working but what did Forbort do to go from a 1 year/1 million dollar deal to 3 years at 3 million each. Triple the money, triple the years? That type of raise is rare outside of guys coming off of ELC’s.

Forbort came off a year where he missed half the season w some sort of back injury. Teams were reluctant to sign him I would guess, but Winnipeg essentially gave him a show me. He made 2.5 with LA.

This is the signing I really didn't like. There's no way you're getting $9M of value out of an offensive black hole like Forbort over the next three years, and his defensive impact is underwhelming for a defensive specialist. Yes they needed some size and PK ability on the left side but committing to him for 3 years is too long and for too much money, especially with Moore still on the roster. That $5.75M could be used way more effectively. It's just poor cap management. He's a marginal improvement on ice over Lauzon but he's not 3x more impactful so they've effectively downgraded when you consider the opportunity cost.

Other than that, welcome to Boston lol. Hope he can grow his game under Cassidy since we're committed at this point.

Did he show enough last year to earn this contract, you think? Genuinely asking in the event that you actually have seen him play because I really haven’t.

It’s nice that he’s still on the right side of 30, but what exactly is he bringing to this team for that price? I’m hoping for descriptors other than “solid” and “consistent” out of those who know his game better than myself.

If you are expecting Forbort to be this big tough fighting machine many of you will be disappointed.
Toughness and fighting are entirely two different things. The Bruins needed Dmen with size and toughness who could protect the front of the net, kill penalties . Would it be nice if they could also fight to protect his teammates yes , but its not the main aspect they needed. Ask the question how many fights happened in the playoffs.

Don't really know much about him aside from like everyone else watching his fights hah

Hopefully he'll bring some toughness keeping peeps out of the crease & do some solid PKing. Just keep the mitts on.

If the plan is to play him with McAvoy that's a nightmare.
I'm not trying to set lofty, unrealistic expectations, but we've both been here long enough to remember people writing off Seidenberg as a bottom pair, yourneyman D. He was around Forbort's age when we got him and certainly nobody was penciling him in as being locked into a dominant pair with Chara en route to a Cup.

Again, not something we should count on, but there is precedent for guys blossoming relatively late in their careers when put in the right system with the right partner. At the very least I don't think we should rule out any particular D combos until we see them not work.

Good point by Fluto. A guy with his reach might benefit from Cassidy's zone scheme.

FWIW a buddy of mine who's a Jets fan liked Forbort a lot, especially compared to the other guys they were playing last year. Not noticeable but sound defensively. Also seems to have a knack for staying healthy.

My expectations are low but if the fit is good he could surprise. I'll keep an open mind til we see the results on the ice.

Not I. So I'm sticking with "weighing down your Ferrari by making it tow a clunker" is a bad idea.

He is a poor mans Miller that hopefully is more durable. Overpaid, but they need another PK shot blocker. That went down hill after Carlo got hurt. We saw him block several Ovi bombs and was one of the reasons he was shut down for most of the series

Hopefully Derek finds a home amongst your smaller D and results in a solid pairing for you.

Cheers.

I thought this was amusing.

"I think Boston plays more of a like kind of like a zone, but I played that in Calgary with... I forget his name, but he was with Boston forever and he loved that system, so I kinda can play both."

Forbort played 7 games with Calgary. The coach's name is Geoff Ward.

He better. He is a shut down d man. A solid one that is really good on the pk. He is a great addition I think. We will see.

Edit: and a shot blocking machine

Was 5th in the league in blocked shots last year.

closest Bruins:
McAvoy - 46th
Lauzon - 121st
Clifton - 124th
Carlo - 206th
Grzelcyk - 221st

Guy is a shot blocking monster:
2016-2017 - 19th - 159 BS
2017-2018 - 19th - 156 BS
2018-2019 - 35th - 139 BS
2019-2020 - 362nd - played only 20 games that season.

I don’t hate this signing. I’m more upset it wasn’t done in conjunction with another top-4 D-man like Suter.

Forbort-McAvoy
Suter-Carlo

Guess we’ll just have to see how this season plays out.
