Notice that Connauton spent some time in the WHL (2009-2010). Given that is the case, there may be more than meets the eye with this trade. The Stars organization and scouts seems to LOVE players that spent time there (Eakin, Dillon, etc).

Time will tell, of course...

Reading Canuck fan comments they don't think he'll ever be a full-time NHL'r. He's exactly the type of D prospect they don't need anyway. He's another Morrow/Goose/Daley, just a little taller. Too many guys with offensive upside who aren't good in their own zone.

Other than Dillon, how many of those are sure-fire NHL players? Adding more is a good thing. Chances are two of Morrow, Oleksiak, K-conn, and Nemeth will not pan out. Don't be so quick to assume every young player on the farm is going to work in the NHL.

So why even add those who may not work out? This is shoddy scouting, isn't it? "Stockpiling" on scraps isn't a good thing either. FTR, they haven't exactly stockpiled on centers.

Oleksiak will definitely be an NHL player. We know that already. Morrow should be too. Nemeth and Connouton, sure, but I doubt both of them. Just Connouton.

It sure sounds to me like Connouton is not an NHL player. And if he makes it, he will be so useless on defense that he will make goose look like a god.

How the **** can joe get joe morrow for b morrow, then turn around and get this return for Roy. Does he have any concept of asset management? Does he not understand he has until tomorrow to build up a solid bidding war? I mean we had to trade Roy, and I'm happy he knew that, but you have to believe he could have gotten more than that

Maybe there wasn't much of a bidding war...

Holy overvaluing Batman. An injury prone rental who has been declining as of late doesn't get you an A+ prospect and a first and you're surprised? Come the **** on.

Its hard to believe that the ducks, jackets, or hawks wouldn't have offered something that fits our needs better

I know right. Roy was on pace for 60 points over 82, has an injury history, along with outrageous contract demands.

You guys need to remember who was being traded, a small undersized center which isn't exactly your playoff type player. Not all that shocked on the return considering he was traded for Steve Ott a year ago.

Canucks Fan here, Connauton isnt a great defender, i see him as a PP Specialist/Puck Moving Defenseman. Hell be a bottom pairing defenseman IMO

I don't have very favorable notes on Connauton, but they're kind of dated. I'll ask around. I have that he kind of reminded me of Matt Hunwick, except with a better shot but not quite as fast. I would have expected a little better out of Derek Roy, to be honest. Shame you couldn't have gotten a straight first for him. I thought in this market, you had a shot at it. Oh well, you guys have been drafting really well...

Been following KConn for few years now and he has some good tools but I don't see him being an NHL defenseman anytime soon, if ever. He has so many issues playing without the puck. He was never going to break in to the Canucks core on left side and seemed to drop down in depth chart every year.

+ Great shot and ability to get pucks through.
+ Very good north-south skater, decent hands and the ability to rush the puck effectively.

- Very low hockey IQ. Makes a lot of dumb mistakes everywhere on the ice.
- Lots of problems with coverage and battles. Part of it is bad reads and part of it is him being not agile enough as a skater. Very good speed straigth ahead speed like mentioned earlier but his lateral movement and agility are really lacking. He just gets beat a lot 1 on 1.
