the debates will die down if stubborn stars fans realize that dahlin has outperformed heiskanen at every stage of their careers....

I haven't seen a single thread about this debate by a sabres fan. it is all insecure stars fans that can't acknowledge that although heiskanen is sure to be an elite player, he'll just never be on dahlin's level

literally no one is hating on Miro. Get over yourselves!

What if situation continues like this 3-4 years and Heiskanen is better than Dahlin? I really don't understand, how people can find this one-sided, when there are multiple posts, that says "they are from different worlds".

Edit. Just trying to say, that funny how there is only one way out in your mind. Others saying, that you are right and they are wrong.

Notice how the only people that care to bring up this topic are Finns or Stars fans. So thirsty for their players to be compared to Dahlin. No Swedes or Sabres fans want to compare Dahlin with other players. They know he’s the top rated young D in the game. They aren’t fishing for consensus towards their viewpoint because it’s a viewpoint that almost all people agree with them about.

I mean there's plenty of Buffalo fans saying he should be an healthy sctatch.

Tough to hype that level of play.

&Seriously let's not act like he doesn't get hyped all over.

if he turns out to be better, then he will turn out to be better and a lot of people will gladly admit it, including myself. but comparing small sample sizes between two players that are a whole draft year apart, playing on teams with two completely different defensive cores... It's just not a real strong base to argue from. It is driven by a biased short-term mentality

And I'm not saying that cause I'm a sabres fan. Miro is a fabulous young defenseman. He just doesn't have a comparable resume right now. All the what ifs don't mean anything concrete

It was bound to happen because they were competing with each other as rookies. Same as what's happening with Makar vs Hughes. These debates will all die off eventually I'm sure, especially as many more young talented dmen enter the league over the next few seasons
Makar/Dahlin/Heiskanen/Hughes will be top of the league for a decade. It’s an amazing class.

Thing is that journalists are big influencers and all the big media of hockey are in NE of NA. I think everybody knows where Buffalo is located.

Dahlin has better hands and shot, anything else goes to Heiskanen.

There are also plenty of people who overreact and say dumb things. This is not only about a month of hockey. McDavid is being outplayed by Draisaitl right now. Crosby was outplayed at times by Malkin. Trying to say the point changes because of a small sample size is ridiculous.

Buffalo might be in the North East, but they never get any hype for any sport.

Better hands and more creative in the offensive zone/risky I'd say, but Heiskanen's wrist shot is for sure better. Dahlin might have the better slap shot though I'm not sure he doesn't use it much but either way Miro's slap shot isn't bad either

Lol even on Dahlin's youtube videos you have the comments filled with "Heiskanen's better" I really doubt any Dahlin or Sabres fans care enough to invade others young D's reels to post that someone is better its pretty laughable at this point. Wait until the seasons finished or better yet Miro has actually passed Dahlin in production on offense before claiming he's "better". If you run advanced stats i'm sure you would think Larry-Okposo-Girgs line is the best line on the Sabres even though none of these guys could find the back of the net if their life depended on it.

Why would he have to score more points for people to be able to say he's better?
One of these guys is a 2way #1D.

Dahlin has yet to be clearly better than Heiskanen.
Get points to start the season and you bet Norris was started to be mentioned with Dahlin.

I had to comment here because it's silly to think or claim there's been no Dahlin hype.
He can be the best D-man one day but he gets too much credit for his actual play thanks to his draft hype.

I said he’s been rough this year. He has 0G4A this year in 16 games

So are you basing his whole game on offensive production at even strenght?

No, but you’d think if he was playing well on a great team like Boston, he’d at least pick up some points

It's a 1 line team and Krug gets the pp minutes.
He hasn't been a beast like he was in the playoffs but wouldn't call his season rough just based on his offensive production.

They are from different drafts. If Heiskanen is not roughly close with an extra year of high level hockey under his belt, it’s a joke to even try to compare.

Heiskanen is very good. He may be roughly even to Dahlin in current ability, but Dahlin has played a year less. Therefore, it’s silly to try to compare the two.

And they play different roles. Dahlin has yet to be given a big defensive role. I think that’s poor coaching. He should be playing about 20-25 minutes in all situations on PP1, PK1 and 1st pair at ES. Heiskanen at this point is being given much closer to that role. You can’t blame Dahlin for being misused and getting less of a chance to produce, yet some of you try to do that because you think there’s some contest here between the two players.

Dahlin can't be trusted in those situations which is why he won't see them while they're trying to compete for a playoff spot. If the Sabres fall too far behind then I'd assume he sees some PK time. Every Sabres dman now sees PK time except for Dahlin for the 2nd year in a row and under 2 different coaches. That's not a coincidence. He's an offensive dman and PP specialist that isn't ready defensively for that role yet

Now of course, you could make the argument that what's it gonna hurt if he sees PK time considering Sabres barely have any dmen that are good in their own end

I think he’s good defensively, but of course some of you are sure to point out any time he makes a defensive error. No one cares to do that with Heiskanen.

I think it’s bad coaching. I know you have an objective to criticize Dahlin, but your opinion is not fact. It’s not a fact that he shouldn’t be given a bigger defensive role.

Nice to see you have another crusade to work on, not just ragging on Kakko. I see a pretty clear pattern emerging here.

I don't think you realize that what I'm saying is exactly what tons of Sabres fans are saying...I mean you could just go look for yourself on Twitter. At least I'm not saying he should be scratched for some games or sent down to the AHL like a lot of them are...

There is literally an opinion of everything on Twitter you are fishing pretty desperately if you are referring to Twitter comments as the absolute opinion...if you see a Stars opinion saying Miro should be benched somewhere do you repeat it on a random forum as if everyone is saying it?

You never see Stars fans saying that so it's not a problem. Players that struggle defensively take that heat, so it gets said about Klingberg a lot

People that I debated with last season about this exact topic are even saying it

Only reason I'm repeating it here is because it's not just a few people...its hundreds and hundreds of people. Now obviously those are major overreactions about a 19 year old but still

Remember that less icetime isnt maybe bad for a young player. There are lots of examples when young players was misused due to the too high icetime.

Actually Heiskanen just recently said in interview that he loves to get much icetime but ofcourse it makes you adjust your playing style, you cant go too much offensively.
