Hopefully Walsh can use it in a positive sense and have a "prove them wrong" mentality. Guys like Alex Debrincat and Alex Tuch didn't make the cut as 19 year olds either. Sometimes the D selections can be a bit specialized in terms of PP/PK specialists, so Severson got squeezed out in 2013 while guys like Derrick Pouliot, Griffin Reinhart, and Chris Bigras made Team Canada.

Should be an interesting tournament. It's lacking some star power compared to other years, so the field seems a little bit more wide open.

Making or not making the WJCs is not a huge deal - the only unfortunate part is that we don't get to see him in those games. WJC selection is done by the same dumb process that selects Olympic teams - routinely leaving off better players in favor of people who play the roles they want.

He thought it was COL. Not everyone follows prospects that closely. Aside from my teams and the big ones, I couldn't really tell you where most of the 1st rounders went last draft either.

I've never seen you here. We're all going to keep telling you that he knew exactly who drafted him and pretended he didn't.

Wait, Walsh didn't even get invited to tryout? That is very odd, how is a player that was one of the final cuts not even allowed a shot at making the team? I bet there is politics involved.

Last year he gave an on air interview and was cut very soon after it. I wonder if he rubbed the brass as entitled in some fashion? It seemed weird last year and it seems weird to me this year. Hopefully he learns from this and it motivates him to focus harder on his deficiencies

What does that even mean? They need a balanced roster and cannot go with a team full of guys that can shoot and pass the puck?

The US hockey committee has always been crap so i'm not surprised at all with this response.

It means he's not as good as the players selected above him at actually playing defense and they wanted to find a more balanced group instead of guys who are too one dimensional.

There's certainly an argument to be made for balancing a WJC roster slightly - if no one the US takes regularly kills penalties, fine, they've probably made some bad choices. But there's also an argument for just selecting the most talented guys (some of whom almost certainly kill penalties) and going with that.
