Lot to give up, and the contract is huge, but the Hawks don't really have a #1 minutes eating defenseman so he'll fit the bill (hopefully). I'll think positively until proven otherwise.

Boqvist adds skill as a PP QB which Columbus desperatly needs and has tons of skill with lots of room for growth. Getting Sillinger with the 1st round pick this year is absolutely huge. Hard to be mad at that given the circumstances

Hawk defense looks good with this trade.

1st Pair LD C. Jones RD S. Jones
2nd Pair LD Stillman RD Murphy
3rd Pair LD De Haan RD Mitchell

Extra:
LD/RD Zadorov ~ RFA*
LD Kalynuk
LD Beaudin
RD Regula

Caleb Jones isn't a 1st pairing defender. He might look ok around 13/14 minutes a night. He skates well and has the odd real nice pass, that's about all he's shown so far other then his first handful of games when he played a lot of minutes. That didn't last long though

Seth Jones is still an elite RHD. Judge the contact after a few years. I still think cbj got a huge haul being in a tough spot but don't under sell Jones.
Define "elite." I've watched nearly every game he played for CBJ and truly, there were only a few instances I thought he was "elite" in any respect. His reputation far exceeds the reality on the ice.

Its an overpay of quantity, but not quality. It obviously benefits CBJ in that it really jumpstarts their rebuild, Chicago gets their top pairing RD for several years without having to deal with losing key pieces like Dach/Reichel/Debrincat. Also if Toews is healthy and they want to compete, Chicago needs that top pairing two way guy to put them in contention.

Boqvist is awful.

I`d very much like an "awful" 20yr old D. Rather few D:s in that age put up this:

Hawks make no sense. They go this way, they go that way. Are you rebuilding or not? What a mess over there. Geez

Tremendous deal for Jackets. Nice save on their part.

I like Jones more than a lot of these posters aka I think he’s a top 10 d man in the league and assuming he regains his motivation I think will be a top 7 d man this year. That being said, 2 firsts, a future 1d and a contract that is 1m more than draisatl for 8 years is absolutely absurd

Boqvist actually could be a better D than Jones
Umm no.

Boqvist was a throw in at this point.

write it down- he will be injured half the year, and unless he’s at around 60% OZS he’s pretty much useless.

Have fun with it

Jones isn't bad, but he's been declining already and players don't typically get better once they start declining. 9.5 is insane, he's never been close to as good as Subban was when he got his contract, and Subban's did not age well.
And for more recent comparables, I don't think there's any way he should have gotten a bigger contract than Josi or Pietrangelo
