Haha, Russia with KHL-superstars loses to Finland's c-team. Terribad game from both sides

Edit. Actually calling this group a c-team might be a bit too generous. Finland's European c-team would be closer to the truth. Anyway Russia should've won this game easily, but they were just dreadful today

MOD Russia has had a ton of chances. Just couldn't capitalize, which is of course a flaw in the game, but it's not like the lost because they were absolutely bad and worthless. As for the roster Russia can ice 2 or 3 comparable rosters from the KHL. It's just the coaching staff looking for the 3rd and 4th liners for the Olympics.

Didn't like the coaching. Perseverance is good untill it turns into stubbornness. And his philosophy is "if plan A doesn't work - let's try it untill it works". Why didn't experiment? Especially at the end... Kovalchuk must be injured or ill, or smth, he wasn't himself today. Defence - help us God... Even don't want to comment. Ryasensky and Birukov simple not on the international level, Medvedev made at least two huge mistakes, one turned into a goal... let's hope it's only one game, because I don't see how Medvedev won't be in Sochi... Not that good so far...

You again. The coaching system isn't even designed for those players. You could see how it works 2012. Every EHT game was disastrous, then with the players able to execute the system it worked pretty well at WC. It doesn't work with 4th liners, Bill will just pick the particular players who do fit in. What is that experimenting for? Winning an EHT game? There was a lot of changing in moving during the game anyway. Probably too hard to notice.

Our D-men who will go to the Olympics were all decent to very good. You just fail to see it. Hate probably? Ryasensky was not great, but reliable in this game. Try watching the game. He also has already proven he can play on international level. Denisov was quite meh. The glaring holes were Biryukov, Zubarev, Kiselevich(who seems to just get stone legs when he's on the NT. too inexperienced, always hesitating on the plays). That's enough to make the D look bad.

Yeah, I also don't see how Medvedev won't be in Sochi. And it's a good thing, because he was actually good.

The only thing that is not that good so far is the fans always whining about things they have no idea about, panicing, hating, trolling. It's a tough spot to be in a roster spot on the russian NT nowadays. Even if you are good you get bashed. But you probably believe Mozyakin would score a hattrick in every game, right?

Somebody hasn't watched the game, huh? Russia has had a ton of chances. Just couldn't capitalize, which is of course a flaw in the game, but it's not like the lost because they were absolutely bad and worthless.

MOD Come on, it's not like this was a meaningful game. If you can't capitalize on a team that consists of bunch of mediocre KHL-players and FEL-players (missing most of their european top guns), then you aren't playing very well. Russia had about 30 SOG, but quality chances were few and far apart. Your D doesn't deserve to be critized as much it does though. Today they were doing just fine, except for the first goal, the second one was just a lucky bounce. Other than those goal and Jormakka's breakaway Finland really didn't have many good opportunities.

As for the roster Russia can ice 2 or 3 comparable rosters from the KHL.

So for example, you have 2-3 Kovalchuk/Radulov combos playing in KHL that you've haven't utilized before? You should bring them all to the olympics and dominate your unsuspecting rivals. :help:

That's not true at all.

Insane shootout move by Klasen. Completely original, never seen that version of the spin-o-rama before.

This is no simple tryout tournament for us. This time only the guys who really have a chance at their respective postions and lines will be there.
...

Kablukov and Glukhov were considered for the 4th line. What's your trouble with understanding there won't be 4 scoring lines on the team, thus no pure offensive players will be invited, but some big shut down bodies instead?

Mozyakin isn't any better than Popov at least. Just because Mozyakin is on a winning team and Popov on a struggling one doesn't change that. Popov is a bright spot in Omsk, while Mozyakin thrives among other star players. The most important part: Popov works for the NT as proven on many occasions. Mozyakin doesn't. For the particular case of the NT Popov is obviously a better option of the two.

This may look different for Perezhogin. but he's kept there for chemistry with Popov. God knows if they get the invite still, while obviously Popov is the better player. Still they all are candidates for the 3rd line. There are a lot of options there and even if Bill would consider Zaripov which he doesn't obviously for some off-ice issues, doesn't mean Zaripov would win out against the likes of Tarasenko for example.

If the coaching staff seriously considers players of that caliber for any line in the Olympic roster, I just don't know what to say.

If Mozyakin seems to be less proven, then it's him who deserves a chance to prove himself, not as a third-liner, but as an injury substitute at least. He definentely is more potent on offense, than Kablukov and Glukhov are on defense. And not considering any player for off-ice reasons is just unprofessional.

But, alas, it's silly to complain at this point, it was obvious from the start that Bill is not going to change his principles and "model". A train wreck is on the way.

One thing I have to complain about the new Olympic arena; that massive space(even with a wide, intl. size rink) between the rink and the stands. Looks like they could have added multiple rows of premier seats and have fans right next to the glass.

Haven't seen that move before.. But have thought about that possibility actually. I hope he gets to do that in Olympic Final like Forsberg! :D But loses the game to Finland obviously if it's Finland he's facing.

I had the same question about that arena, why all that space between the glass and the front row? most likely for security purposes? I suspect there will be OMON presence in the area.
