Maybe, Monahan has become more well balanced though so I think it would work. Plus, Neal adds a physical dynamic to that top line that Lindholm doesn't have. Guess we'll see.

Lindholm is quite physical...
And Monahan is a finisher and his stats show that he hasn't become more balanced.

Most common linemates were Staal and Aho

Most common was actually Jeff Skinner, Aho, Staal and McGinn. All within 5 games played with each other (I.E about 80 minutes from Skinner to McGinn)

No slight against Carolina, there's no one there that's remotely close to Gaudreau in terms of offensive capability.

Going from Staal/Aho to Monahan/Gaudreau is a big upgrade.
Going from McGinn/Skinner to Backlund/Tkachuk is an inconceivably huge upgrade.

This guy'll have the chance to play on a good top 6 and produce at a high level. In an interview post trade with Peters, he said that Lindholm should be in that 55 point + range.

If Calgary gets 55-60 out of him, this contract will be one of the really good ones league wide.

It better be this season, if it's ever going to happen. 24-25 is my cut off where you are what you are and there is not much untapped offensive potential.

And to be unbiased Zibanejad is included in that. If it doesn't happen this year for him than I don't think it ever will.

Zibs scored 27 goals in 72 games last year. He is also a playoff performer, what more do you want?

Kadri and Couturier are hilariously underpaid.

But seriously, it reminds me of Couturier before his break out season. It's fair value for right now, a upper class middle six centre.

To really take the next step as an elite #1 center? 27 goals isn't THAT impressive. Has him barely in the top 50 for goals scored last season.

Has the ship sailed on him becoming a 65 point winger?

Linemate dependent. He's not going to be a 65 point player as the top offensive option on his line. However, if he's put into the position of being the 2nd or 3rd wheel on a line with a quality goalscorer driving the play, he has that ability as be showed in the 2nd half of 16-17 next to Aho.

Does every forward with poor production just get this assumption made for them? hes not, and there is nothing to back this up
I been watching this kid during his entire career, don't talk about things you don't know about (Sam Gagner part 2? LOL) . Lindholm is solid on the defensive end.

The Rangers aren't a good team though. Hypothetically putting up 30 is pretty good.

Considering what you gave up for him I think I’d be pretty happy with him being a solid 2C or low end 1C, which he appaira to be trending towards

6 years for 45 points? Must be nice to live off draft position.

Welcome to the new, new NHL. It's nice to meet you.
23 year olds who can consistently score 40+ points on any line you slot them, will make money.

Just as a reference, because some people tend to be living a few years back, this contract equivalent is 3.56 million in 2011.

I think it's worth it. This deal has the potential to look like a steal in a year or two.

It’s a fair number for him. He’s not a 60 point center or whatever, but he’s a Swiss Army knife player who can move up and down the lineup without embarrassing himself. And while the term is a bit much, it’s hard to imagine he won’t be worth that number when he’s 29. Other than injury I don’t know why that would be.

Best of luck to him, he’s a good kid and should have a long career in Calgary as long as they want him.

Calgary's got the benefit of paying Johnny Gaudreau one of the best dollar value contracts in the league; with Monahan closely behind.

If Brad Treliving has done anything amazingly, it's the management of his cap. He's never risked losing players, he lets guys walk who don't fit the structure (see Colborne) and gets young players signed long term. I also like the work Calgary does in terms of cap balance, I.E Vet contracts come off the books as we need to sign youth.

Sam Gagner has to be player that other players are most compared to in this sites history.

Seriously. Sam Gagner should get some $$ every time he's compared to another player on HFBoards.

Marner, Matthews (YES I am not kidding), Kadri, Nylander were all also compared to Gagner. IIRC, Lindholm and Aho at one point were compared to him as well.

There's probably a zillion possible combinations for CGY's forward lines next season. So I have no idea where Lindholm will fit. But there's no reason to think he's not a 50~ish point guy, and he could end up being more.

Tyler Bozak just got 3 years at 5 million, and he doesn't have Lindholm's youth or 2-way ability (this from a Bozzie fan). Getting Lindholm for under 5 is pretty great, given some context.
