Our future 2nd D pair is probably Gavrikov/Peeke. Gav is already there. Merzlikins is an NHL starting goalie. Bemstrom is an NHL player, but needs to develop more. He can shoot. Others are AHLers who get the occasional call up.

We have big plans for Kivlenieks. CBJ must leave a goalie exposed for the Seattle expansion draft and since Elvis is exempt and they will want to protect Korpi...Kivy it is.

Monday's Russian update:

Marchenko opened up the scoring for SKA today (game entering third period so maybe he isn't done yet). That's at least a goal in four straight.

Voronkov kept off the scoresheet

Tarasov got the start for Salavat. He has blanked Sochi through two periods stopping 18 shots.

Marchenko absolutely tore up MHL in a brief stint he was there, then has been strong in KHL.

I think he’s the most NHL ready out of all Russian prospects

How much negotiating power do Russian prospects have playing in the KHL?

like could Chinakov come back and say I only want to sign one year at a time?

Say that to who, his Russian club? NHL ELCs are pretty much ironclad due to the CBA.

I hope whenever/if these kids come over they are "over ripe" and ready to hit the ground running....or hit the ice skating, maybe?

I am pretty sure cslebn was asking how much leverage Russian prospects have with their KHL club. And its a great question, can they negotiate an "out clause" for the NHL, can they negotiate one year deals, etc.

I distinctly remember a tweet posted from his Russian club where it sounded more like they wanted to convince him that leaving the KHL and signing his ELC could be rash. Rushing his development and that he would benefit from more time in Russia rather than potentially being sent down to the AHL for seasoning.

I have a hard time believing Chinakhov will be ready for the NHL after this season but I guess we will have to see how the season unfolds. Certainly that's what his agent is thinking as well. As others have said, would be OK with an up to two year KHL contract extension but three years would be disappointing.

I read somewhere today that said 'Tarasov will be the starting goalie going forward'. Salavat Yulaev's #1 wasn't even on the roster today so don't know if he is hurt, suspended, ill, etc. Whatever it is its unfortunate for him but good for us as it sounds like Tarasov is finally going to get some games. Let's hope he takes advantage of the opportunity and earns more starts.

He came through today stopping 28 shots in a shutout win.

Tarasov earns his first KHL shutout today.

Marchenko’s goal :

His shot is very good. And he can skate and stickhandle. And good size. He's going to be a solid player.

Him and Chinakhov will be sexy together. Not sure about Voronkov, though. It would be cool, of course, to have the whole Russian line, but I think, Voronkov's potential isn't as big, as these two kids'.

Does this dude just score every game, my god...and he's 20. I'm liking the big swings for top end talent, Russia a good place to find it.
It seems like he has been quite streaky in his past. So waiting for other shoe to drop and he goes cold for ten games (the CBJ fan in me always waiting for the negative).

Pronman ranks us as 21st in the NHL with our prospect pool. He also ranked Chinakhov as our 8th best prospect

Would love to see where this board ranks him whenever the prospect rankings start. I'm wondering where people will vote him.
