I like how 538 sometimes has articles that group an actor’s movies. I was kind of going for something like that. Without actual metrics. But maybe with mildly amusing names for categories.

The Four Types Of Tom Cruise Movies

The Three Types Of Adam Sandler Movies

That’s a good basis. I prefer tiers to rankings, clusters to slots anyway. So while, again, I find nationality (like what college a football players comes from) often an oversimplification. But in the case of your groupings I feel like it works.

Looking at this year’s draft I figured we took all the late round Europeans because the front office figured European leagues were more likely to play than North American leagues. But grouping prospects from several drafts makes me think maybe that is where we think we have a comparative advantage so we act on it. Especially the last few drafts. Angle and TFW are the only North Americans taken in later rounds in the last 3 drafts. 2 out of 12 picks.

First round we have gone with plenty of North Americans over the years. But (with the possible exception of this year) everybody picks somebody from a group of about 40-50 players, and those kids include lots of North Americans. So it comes down to how well you scout those kids.

(I know OJBH played in the OHL. I also know it is probably way easier for a kid from Norway to go play in an obscure European league than a kid from Alberta or suburban Buffalo.)

Do we have a consolidated list of where all our prospects are playing at the moment (which league and which team)?

Columbus Blue Jackets at eliteprospects.com

This tracks their '20-'21 stats and teams. For where they are currently (MHL vs KHL, for example) you'd probably need to dig a little deeper, but not that many guys are splitting time - looks like just Marchenko and Pyythia potentially (if he plays a Liiga game). And it looks like Tarasov might have played one VHL game and one KHL game.

I’ve seen rumors that Marchenko is only in MHL as a conditioning stint after he was out for a while due to being positive for Covid. Can anyone confirm?

So last year Bemstrom told the CBJ Brass if he did not make the CBJ team he would play in the SHL rather than the AHL. If he still feels this way would it be better for his development to play in the SHL/Liiga or to stay in the NHL even if he is not playing consistently?

Currently he has 7 points in 6 games in Liiga.

Certainly seems like he's out grown the SHL.

He should play in the NHL/AHL. I don’t think he has that option anymore

I wouldn't say a player has outgrown a certain level unless he's really rounded out his game. And when Bemstrom was last in the SHL, he was a pure shooter, kind of a powerplay specialist.

I think it would be great if Bemstrom could lead an offense in all aspects, and develop his playmaking more. I want to see a year of that before bringing him back to the NHL.

Maybe I’m naive but I think he is an underrated playmaker. Check out his playmaking ability at the 0:25, 1:40, 4:59 marks.
There are areas that he needs to improve for sure but I think this kid has huge potential and could really help our team, this year. He’s my favorite prospect so I understand if I’m being a ‘homer.’

This goal he scored reminds me of Debrincat, I think that’s a good comparable.

I think Bemstrom has tons of potential. What I'm seeing in those clips though is just raw tools, he passes well but not often. He could easily become a quick strike guy like Cam or DeBrincat but I want him to get a lot better at protecting pucks and surveying the ice. He takes a lot of shots from distance when he could move a little more and use his teammates to try to break the defense. He went straight from being a specialist in the SHL to being a raw rookie in the NHL, this year is the first year where he can dominate and experiment with his game a little bit, I'm excited for Emil.

Me too. I don't think he has Bjorkstrand type upside, but I think he can be a 20-25 goal 2nd line guy. Which for a 4th (or 5th? I forget) round pick is very solid. Good skater. Great shot, and is growing braver in the defensive end. Just have to get him confident playing in the NHL, and with better linemates.
