The two Detroit games are so important to decide if we make the playoffs now.

After our three games against Toronto, Winnipeg and Carolina our Strength of schedule are now at 0.574 and Detroit have 0.576. Flyers have one of the easiest in the league with 0.513.

... or... just play well enough to leapfrog Philly into third, and the rest will take care of itself.
Also possible as they have been bad lately, but they have a pretty easy schedule with Chicago and Columbus among those games and only 2 or 3 games vs playoff teams (Depending on if we make it). Still we are only 2 pts behind with 2 games in hand. Still if we beat Flyers we will most likely beat Detroit anyway.

Detroit have a harder schedule than us left and have 7 away games and only 4 home games left. They have 21-11-5 at home and 15-18-1 away. We have 6 at home and 6 away with 19-11-5 at home and 16-15-4 away. So if Caps get at least one win vs Detroit in those two games Im pretty sure Detroit will be behind.

remember when this board was calling mcmichael a bum and wanted him to be traded. classic meeting of the minds stuff.
McMichael is a good player but he looks like two kids disguised as an adult Standing on each others shoulders inside his uniform

Not really.

I recall McMichael excelling at Center and stinking at wing. He was blocked by Lavi, Backstrom, Kuznetsov and Eller. Funny how all four are gone in just one season.

Would McMichael, Iorio, and two 1st round picks be enough to land Draisaitl this summer?

Drai is at $8.5M cap hit next year and you'd extend him 8 years x $14M or whatever he wants.

the oilers will never trade draisaitl and if they did they’d demand the sun and moon

First time all year our playoff odds have exceeded 50%. I’ve rarely seen a team have this kind of turnaround. We were dead and buried in January:

Yeah, I remember that. Feb 13th, after getting blitzed at home by the Avs, we were 23-21-8. Since then? 12-5-1. While letting layers go right and left.

as many have stated, this portends so well for this coming summer, into next year. Assuming all they do is resign RFA’s in 24 and 47, and sign Leonard (let’s call him #9) after his season ends in a few weeks.

That’s 13 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies (oh and like 16.5m in cap space, assuming any Beck come in around 3.7m together).

16.5m in cap space.

So this current team; plus Leonard, minus Pacioretty & Aube-Kubel….and plus $16,500,000 in added salary.

I mean….wow?

Ovie's renaissance combined with Lindgren heroics are the biggest parts, but it definitely helps that the rest of the Eastern Conference has seemingly decided that they don't want to make the playoffs, either. Detroit is 3-7 in their last 10. Islanders are 3-6-1, and had a prolonged losing streak in there. Flyers are 4-4-2. Pittsburgh bottoming out at 2-6-2. Devils are 5-5 in their last 10, but opened March by losing 7 of their first 9 games of the month.

That, and it “refreshes itself”, in the form of a glitch. Which deletes anything I’ve written. It’s f***ing maddening!!

The auto refresh is terrible and the amount of ads/pop ups on my phone almost renders this msg board unusable except for laptop. If anyone has any Adblock-type apps that work well for this board on mobile, let me know.

It’s so good! I still think the Caps will look to add one or two forwards in FA (or trade). Love Miro but we could sign a veteran forcing Miro down since he is waiver exempt. Same for Leonard. I’d rather see them up in NHL to be clear, but second year NHLers tend to regress. Just look at McMichael and Protas. Took them some call-up / send down time. Or look at Tage Thompson. But the good news is we have Cap space to get that top line guy (center or wing).

You have heard me say it before, but Sam Reinhart is my top FA target. No way can FLA sign all of their FA’s and Reinhart will be the most expensive. He fits our profile as he is only 28, but will brings almost 700 NHL games experience. he will also have 31 playoff games (plus what he gets this year). he is 6.5M now and I suspect he is 8.5M to 10M depending on term. We can sign him to 7 year deal taking him to 35.

Despite trying all of the suggestions, i still can’t get X (from my iPad) links to populate image, but this came out today (50 goals in 60 seconds).

Why do you say this? He's entering the last year of his deal and will command ~$14M on his next contract. McDavid needs a new contract, too, and Drai hates living in Edmonton so he may decide he wants to hit FA.

At that point it would behoove Ken Holland to move him and get assets back. But even then, Drai only has a 10 team trade list & not every team on it would be able to absorb his cap hit (on top of sending assets for him) so the market would have some constraints.
