I never got what the advantage was of signing a player when they're already back at juniors for the year.

Is it the pure human factor of "you earned it, here's a recent pay cheque"?

His entry level contract "slides" as long as he is in junior (up to two years). So I think it is more of a gesture by the Caps and I think most teams do this with their high end draft picks.

Ah forgot about that - thanks.

Excited to get the updated rosters for EHM now that we're champs and will get a bit of love!

Signing bonuses get paid out now to the player, which is a nice little boon for them and it effectively lowers their cap hit when their ELC actually begins by giving out those signing bonuses now.

You can see the Jakub Vrana contract for this.

Damn, Reirden don't play around, zero ambiguity in that sentence.

That means Bowey might be on the outside looking in again. “He needs to push me in that direction of making a change to that group because, as of right now, I wouldn’t be,” Reirden said

Haven't seen much preseason other than the home opener so how has Shumakov looked

Would we see him in Hershey or the NHL

As long as it is consistent with Reirden I am on board. If a player has rough time over say 10-15 games than I hope he gets benched and not kept in the lineup just because he is a "leader".

Also, a drafted player that doesn't sign for those 2 years is lost. So you sign them as soon as you can if you think they are nhl prospects

In the media I'm fine with coaches not being completely blunt all the time for the sake of the players. But in the locker room, I think its very important for them to be honest and blunt with where players stand.

Couple of thoughts from early session this morning ("It was just practice" caveat here):

The 'best' players on the ice were Lucas Johansen and...Jayson Megna. Megnatron. He was winning all the battles on the PK, scored a shortie, set up a golden chance for another, and pretty much anytime he was in on Hotlby he buried it. I wouldn't have thought he had a chance to make the team before this morning. I'm not saying he will, but he made an impression on me.

In one respect, Johansen is the anti-Lindros - once he receives the puck, he doesn't look at it again. Ever. Head is always up. I'm thinking he's going to have a good year in Hershey.

Lots of low-offensive zone work today, including dump-ins off the rush. Then some PP/PK, then some 4 on 4.

Wilson caught Hobbs with a high stick in front of where I was standing in the Arlington rink. Hobbs, after a second, shook it off. Hockey players.

"Watch your ****ing clears!" is what gets yelled at you when your clearing attempt goes rink-length and almost hits the group working at the other end. This comes in accented Russian and hockey English.

So if Ovy has a tough stretch you want him benched? Got it.

Tough crowd.

“This isn’t a developmental league.”

-Barry Trotz

This is a franchise looking to repeat. They’re not ****ing around. You either unseat the guy in front of you or you watch from the pressbox.

So, see? Maybe the guy that wanted Orpik in the lineup every game was Reirden. Maybe the guy that thinks Bowey needs to step up and show him something is Reirden.

I just watched his presser from yesterday where he said that Bowey need to stop making primary defensive mistakes and needs to prove that he can do that first. Then he can do some of the things in the offensive game that his skill allows.

Now...that sounds like Trotz again.
