Im in this :) They shot in it an old AC casino and made it look like Vegas. Chris Delia was in it but he got canceled and they had to redo all his scenes post production.

Also Bautista is a massive human, Im 6'2 200 IB and he made me look like a baby.

That’s awesome congrats!

Finally able to catch up on a few films I wanted to watch.

Tenet was solid throughout the whole movie. I really enjoyed it and it’s one of those films that you know you liked because you keep thinking about it a few days later.

Absolutely hated Ad Astra. They marketed it to be a completely different film than it was. The storyline was super boring. Visuals were about the only thing I enjoyed.

King of Staten Island was interesting. I think it did a good job of blending a dramatic storyline with comedy. Pretty decent cast for it too.

Hate is such a strong word for moviegoing IMO. I’ve “hated” like 2 movies.......ever. Disliked plenty. Bored by many....

I think there was some SYFY entertainment value in Ad Astra.

I enjoyed Tenet, but it's definitely among Nolan's weakest works. Nolan is the master of the "thinking man's action movie" genre, but Tenet comes off almost as smug. It thinks its a smarter movie than it really is. It's worth watching, but doesn't really stand up compared to Inception or Momento or his Batman trilogy.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I hated Ad Astra, but I was pretty disappointed. The world didn't really need another Heart of Darkness adaptation, and there have been better films adaptations of both Heart of Darkness and covering isolation in space. It wasn't entirely without merit, but not something that would be high on a recommendation list for sure.

Fair enough. I strongly disliked the film ;)

I think the entertainment value was definitely the first third of the movie. From there it gets boring pretty quickly.

I think this is spot on. Isolation in space makes people mostly do bad things and go crazy (unless you’re Mark Watney in The Martian) We know this already.

Side Note: If there are folks around here who enjoy space movies/shows, I’d recommend For All Mankind on Apple TV. Second season ends this Friday. It’s about an alternate timeline where the Soviets beat the United States to become the first on the moon.

12 years a slave such a good movie, really hits you in the feels

I was in New Orleans, eating over at Jacomos in the back of a pick up truck and we were having a good ole time. Started talking with this older guy and found out he was the first person in the State of Louisianna to get a DUI for flying a plane. He knew everybody and everybody knew him. He told me and my lady his family owned an old plantation house across the river and we should come check it out. Sure enough we ended up going over there the next day and he owned an old plantation home that still had some slave quarter structures. Nothing huge and fancy, big enough house raised up on stilts, moss all over the trees thick trunk, really dusty and worn down really. Kinda scary, it had stuffed dusty cats and animals with their mouths open, old shot guns and lamps, photos and nit nackets of all types.

Just an old drunk man living there by himself.

12 years a slave parts where filmed there and he said some scene made him feel real uncomfortable. he said they built a good bit of slave houses for filming. Showed us the bed various actors and actresses would sleep in. rattled off a list of movies shot there.

New Orleans has a lot of filming done there. They call it the Hollywood South.

Interesting .. back in the day before refrigeration they would dig these big underground rooms with a hole youd have to climb up and down to get into where they stored food and goods. Scary

Its great. I "lived" down there for 5 months. Not sure if 5 months counts as living. Right on St Charles with the street car line out front. Dont eat in the French Quarter, its mostly crap. Just get drunk there and watch your wallet.

You gotta venture out of the tourist areas for some amazing food.

New Orleans and San Francisco are the 2 places in the US you dont feel like youre in the US.

edit - to get back on track re movies

The Platform (netflix?) was really good, indie movie, really cool concept, cinematography, acting it was all really well done. Heavy though, not a movie Id want to see again but loved it.

Brittany Runs a Marathon .. started out funny but lost its steam half way through.

I’ve been but it was 2 months after Katrina so I didn’t get the real NOLA vibe. Saw some interesting shit though. Water lines 2ft over the front door of houses that are on 2 foot foundations. Getting drunk with some locals around a campfire in a car stereo store parking lot in Gretna. Supervising a demo crew tearing out the guts of a 5 star basement level steak house in the quarter and looking the other way as the owner sold cases of contaminated booze to locals and getting a couple crisp 100 dollar bills for my troubles. Bar hopping on an empty bourbon street. An interesting experience. Felt like a movie.

Does anyone care about the Oscars this year? I had to watch all the movies this year for my job and it was the worst season I can remember. My picks is Chicago 7 (netflix) for best picture, Riz for best actor from Sound of Metal (amazon prime) but it will prob go to Chadwick since he passed away. And for leading female im pulling for Carey Mulligan but it will prob go to Volia Davis because she win every award.

I thought Carey Mulligan was completely dull.

That was the funniest ending to the Oscars that I can remember. They were basically telegraphing that Chadwick was going to win the Best Actor by having the award be last instead of Best Pucture.

But instead Hopkins wins it (deservedly from all accounts) and he’s not even there to accept the award or give a speech. Even funnier is that Joaquin Phoenix seemed completely uninterested in being there, so the whole ending was awkward and beautiful.

A+ would watch again.

Really enjoyed Shadow and Bone on Netflix. Never read the book, but a really well done high fantasy series.

Always a good sign when a bunch of no name actors give good performances. Only actor I can recall ever seeing before is Ben Barnes.
