This is what we wanted folks, a clean house. Some nice things might be thrown out along with the trash.

Weve been talking for 24 hours about how receptive Rutherford will be to analytics and whether or not he is open to modern ideas and progressive thinking. Before he’s finished sitting down he’s fired the head analytics guy who has served under like 6 prior GMs and was promoted into his role by Gillis. That doesn’t concern you?

A lot of wish-casting about how he’s going to do this or he’s going to do that but for now I’m just going based on what has happened so far.

Apparently it wasn't Rutherfords decision.

Yeah no kidding what a silly article. So obvious these guys are IMac’s friends or sources. The only rationale to not can them is timing and length of employment. Those are not convincing. If they’re going to be fired anyway might as well get on with it and not leave them hanging even longer. These are grown men and professionals.

That's always been the canary in the coal mine. Gillis is the best GM in Canucks history simply by demoting him. Real opportunity here for NewOldJim.

 Agreed 100%. Delorme and Smyl remind me of this guy in Casino:

IMac is a complete tool, but he somewhat has a point here. The narrative shift from the press conference and news release with Smyl to these moves is really weird. Aquilini mentioned Gear by name in the press release.

Obviously, Rutherford wasn't consulted on any of that and quickly made it clear who is in charge. Not that I particularly care about the optics because the changes are overwhelmingly positive and far overdue, but hopefully Aquilini let's hockey ops do the talking and messaging moving ahead.

I could take or leave Gillis, but Gilman at GM with some degree of autonomy on the roster from Rutherford and Aquilini would go a long way in making me excited about the future.

What if Gilman as GM hires Gillis as Associate GM?

Burkie still has a soft spot for the Canucks. Still love the dude for brining in Kesler and The Sedins. Really f***ed up the Umberger situation though.
Hes also a piece of shit who tried and succeeded to screw over the team for signing one of the best gms in team history that made is OBC buddies look like morons.

Sorry if i dont think this is good news.

i don’t understand why Drance is piss here

Smyl has been in the org with multiple tittles before, does he think fans really care that he doesn’t have a specific job tittle?

Don't really understand getting rid of Chris Gear. Perhaps a personal feud that Frank had with him?

Sooooo...it's looking more and more like Gear and Wall were axed at the direction of the Aquilini's and not necessarily by Jim Rutherford.

Is it possible that the Aqua family decided those two were part of why the family is seen as meddling in team affairs? Leaking some info about Franco's perceived influence on Benning, perhaps?

One thing is for certain after that Smyl / FrAq interview: the Aquilini's are damn sensitive around the notion that they've been meddling. It seems they want to squash that idea ASAP.

Changed pretty quickly from Smyl and Co, to this.

So much for not meddling.

Of course, this approach isn't helping that idea. Exactly the opposite.
