That's not how the salary cap works. We are actually more screwed now because we carry the dead cap longer.
No, it was the same. Voracek would have squeezed them more until he went on IR, but once they're LTIR, with Ellis out, Atkinson is less wasted space (since in the summer you can only carry 10% or about $8M in LTIR space). So it's more flexibility for two years in return for more pain in the fourth year.

That's just not how it works. It's not the same. The extra year of dead cap is worse.

It's laughable that you're doing your best to say we were always screwed after you lauded the move for being such a better situation all-around. What a backpedal.

A healthy Atkinson was a better fit than a healthy Voracek.
But if both are on long-term IR, it's a wash.
However, if Atkinson gets the "Eichel" procedure, good chance he's 100% next year, while Jake should probably retire.

No he wasn't, considering how degraded the team's zone entry and transition ability immediately came.

All that nonsense about fit that Fletcher pushes? It's nonsense. Total bullshit. His robotic chasing of roles based on archaic stereotypes is a major reason the team sucks.

Is Atkinson at 100% really a difference maker? He will be 32 and will have not played for 1.5 years

All these injuries do is prove that the NHL is a young league. Older guys tend to get hurt more often and stay out longer (I believe the Flyers have the 2 exceptions to this rule in Allison and Lazynski). How much proof do you need - Ellis, Atkinson, Hayes (he is definitely not 100%). so what does Chuckles do with this data - he signs Couturier until he is 38....I'm not saying you should not have some veterans but for God's sake don't have them signed for a decade.....

idk who you're talking to but whoever it is, perhaps this individual isn't aware of what theyre saying and perhaps each day they really do genuinely believe they came up with their ideas on their own and cannot remember what they have said in the past. We should not take advantage of the cognitively challenged.

And then there are 32 year old Erik Karlsson playing the best season of his career, 37 year old Patrice Bergeron still playing like a Selke trophy winner, 37 year old Brent Burns playing top pair minutes for Carolina, 33 year old Drew Doughty averaging more minutes than anyone in the league, 35 year old Sidney Crosby still carrying the Penguins to the playoffs, 37 year old Alex Ovechkin aiming for Gretzky's record, and so on.

Younger players can be just as or even more injury prone as older players. See Eichel, Farabee, Allison, etc.

I started thinking how bizarre of a franchise the Flyers are. Statistically the most successful franchise outside of Montreal, been to 8 SCF's, yet hasn't won a Cup in 50 years, and the drought is honestly only going to get embarrassingly longer. truly only in Philadelphia does that happen. why does this city suck so much in the championship round lol

This is the longest ECF drought (13 years) and SCF drought (tied with 13 years from 97 through 2010) in franchise history.
