He could leave it up to the last moment before the season starts, but that would be cutting off his nose to spite his face. His best move would be to sign for one year, go to camp on time, have a good year, then revisit this next year when he has more leverage.

Maybe they are fighting over term, and BG wants to sign him for an extra year? Otherwise, holding out makes no sense to me, from Addison's POV.
I would think either term, or, if a trade request has been made, to buy time so the Wild can explore trade options and then sign before training camp/regular season if nothing has been made. Addison's camp doesn't really lose anything by signing at the latest possible moment, why sign now instead of September. Almost like there's already a partially-executed contract on their desk atm.

Holding out makes sense to me from Addison's PoV.

Moneywise:
-His QO this year $787,500, which would make his QO (105% raise) for next season $826,875. 2 year minimum total of $1,614,375.
-If he got a $900k x 1 deal this year it would make his next QO (105% raise) $945,000. 2 year minimum total of $1,845,000.

GMBG's temper tantrums:
Holding out could also tweak GMBG enough into trading Addison before the season starts. He's probably going to get sick of being asked why Addison isn't signed and say something off the cuff (Fiala and Talbot in previous off-seasons).

I’d let him sit out if he wants to hold out. Then he’s making $0 and has zero leverage to go anywhere else.

I wish we didn't have to nickel and dime and extort our young players with potentially bright futures while guys like Foligno, Middleton, Fleury and Goligoski are making the amount of money they are. I wish we didn't prioritize being old and slow and not very good.

Don't forget GMBG was trying to re-sign Reaves for over $1m this offseason.

Addison wasn’t good 5v5, does that factor into the equation at all? At least Foligno, Middleton and Fleury play their roles generally league average. Well, maybe not Middleton, but he’s okay next to Spurgeon

Yay! I'm definitely less enthused about Addison than others but there's no doubting he's skilled offensively and only 23yrs old.

Happy he'll be around at least for the short term; and at very least make an enticing trade asset at his cap hit and age.

Seems dirt cheap to me. Well, at least he'll be motivated this year to prove them wrong.

-17 last season

Set for a tough journey in this league for Addison, but now he has a chance to show us that he can do better. If he doesn't compete in the d-zone, that's what Evason didn't like about his game, he'll spend a lot of time in the press box again.

How did Billy screw Addison exactly? By not giving him the last $40k we have left under the cap?

Dumba didn’t get screwed, he was going to be too expensive for this team. Addison got what was left so idk what you’re complaining about. Fiala we can go in circles about but I do agree on him at least.

Addison came in a little cheaper than I expected before this off-season got underway, but not significantly cheaper. Glad it got done. Now Addison needs to show he can play more than a sheltered PP specialist role. If he does that, his offense will ensure he gets paid.

Why are a couple of people are mad at Guerin for getting more talent on the team for cheap? Teams win by having as much talent as possible for as cheap as possible. Weird gripe.

I don't think people are generally mad that Addison didn't get paid more, I think they're mad because there's a growing trend of Guerin willing to overpay veterans and gritty bottom sixers that he likes who don't really bring much while simultaneously nickel and diming/hardballing (and sometimes trading) younger, skilled, offensively inclined players who are actually fun to watch.
