USA 18 goals in 2 games.

Might be the best u18 team they ever had.
If I remember correctly, they had the best USHL season for the U17 team in the program's history last year and won the most games against NCAA competition this season.

He can’t. He loses to Kakko every time. His nickname is silver which isn’t bad because he’ll go first overall so he wins there
Funny considering Hughes had a better ppg in that tournament considering he had a diminished role and was playing injured

Sooooo....about that "gap"....
What gap? Most people have Hughes ranked number one still and rightfully so. Kakko closing the "gap" isn't an indictment on Hughes, but more so how well Kakko was this season.

Also, great game from Hughes and that entire team in general. This is why it's stupid to overreact to practice games or one meh performance in the opener.

It was amazing what this team did last season as the U17 squad. The program had never won a single USHL playoff game before last season, yet last season they won a series and made it all the way to the conference finals. And this was accomplished without Hughes, Caufield, Turcotte, York, and Knight — all of whom had been promoted to the U18 team.

They have been a blast to watch the past two seasons here in Plymouth.

I was talking about the team he's playing with now (Finland).

Didn't he play today?

What was his overall stats?
He's playing practice games right now, which are about as meaningless as the practice games Hughes had for the U18 tourney.

I am fortunate to have the program playing in our home town, and we have season tickets. So I have seen almost all their home games for the past two seasons (plus a road game this season at the University of Michigan). It will probably be some time before we will see another group approaching the talent level of this squad. They have been very impressive from their very first games as the U17 squad.

How is Hughes travelling in terms of physical growth, weight and muscle? Is he physically ready to transition to the NHL? or does he need a year in College?

I honestly don't know what to make of this kid even in the new style of NHL. Matthews and Eichel have really set the bar high for high first round American talent (USNDP players), to the point of spoiling everyone.

Who would be an NHL player Hughes might compare to?

While the team is extremely strong - hitting seven points in a single game is crazy good

Lets see if he keeps it up and breaks the tournament record

Kane.

Comparing him to Matthews or Eichel doesn’t make much sense. He projects to play a different position and plays a different style of hockey.
