hopefully avs learned with makar and jost a second college season is key. newhook could be a 70 point player dont ruin that by rushing
Newhook is the superior offensive player in all regards, but there are other ways to win games that Krebs does a lot better - that's the point I was trying to make. In regards to playmaking, I do think they are fairly close. Krebs was PPG player on one of the worst teams in the CHL and his playmaking/vision was at the core of this strength, that speaks volume to me. Newhook is damn good, but he tends to use his shot more where Krebs would pass the puck. Here Newhook is the more dangerous player since he can either pass the puck or shoot it to damage you, where with Krebs you know he'll tend to pass it before thinking shot. That trait reduces his dangerous factor, but I still he's better on even strength in generating offence while Newhook is more of the PP specialist
You guys did damn good picking Podkolzin at 10 so don't feel so bad hah.Both are great players and I wish the Canucks could have somehow gotten a second first rounder to nab one of them.

Why he fell is a mystery to me but we need to make up for Benning reaching for Jake Virtanen and Olli Juolevi.

Pod, Petterson, Horvat and Boeser is a pretty sweet forward core either way. Alot of variation there in their styles which should make them very versatile and mesh well.Why he fell is a mystery to me but we need to make up for Benning reaching for Jake Virtanen and Olli Juolevi.
Virtanen wasnt a reach but yea.
VAN could have swapped with the AVs for a 1st next year in a package for Barrie. Instead the pick went to TB - JT Miller. So the opportunity was available, but offered a rumoured underwhelming Virtanen + Conditional 2020 1st. Podkolzin is expected to be a very good player when he eventually arrives, you should be pleased with the pick.

I'm not sure what the offer was that the Avs were looking for Barrie from the Canucks.
I heard they offered Virtanen and or Tanev plus some kind of draft pick but who knows.
I'm sure if the Avs 16th and Barrie were being offered to the Canucks it would have been too steep for them.

sure he was over the next 2 forwards picked who had much better skillsets but had "size" concerns.
Jake had a good goal total but for a guy his size his playoffs was meh and his overall hockey IQ just has never been there.
Nick Ehlers - maybe?What’s his NHL comparable?

Canucks are not dealing Horvat. Period.This is why Benning made some odd moves.
Barrie and the 16th were both available. AVs likely targeting Horvat, so other details could have been considered including variations of picks and prospects. Basing on the AVs trade for Kadri, (similar player) AVs could have packaged: Barrie & 2019-16 (Newhook) = Horvat.
VAN could have:
AVs solve their 2C and VAN adds Barrie + Newhook.
- Kept their 2020-1st & 2019-3rd picks;
- Paid Barrie instead of overpaying Myers;
- Solved need for RHD;
- Barrie as a DMan vs Miller have similar scoring;
- Drafted Newhook to replace Horvat;
- TB would take less for Miller due to Cap issues; or
- Sign the surplus UFA Forwards.

Yup, I would absolutely love Barrie and if he signs here after next year (at a quasi-reasonable rate) I will be over the moon. But Colorado did well for themselves there.Didn’t believe he ever was...VAN and COL went elsewhere to fill their needs. I’m very happy for COL with the addition of Kadri and keeping their pick/Newhook.

Why? NCAA is more than fine for him, and he’s getting minutes against better competition. Not every 18 year old dominates the NCAA right away, just ask his teammate drafted higher than him in Boldy.Should have went to the Q
