I think Staal is my vote for realistic 3rd line center, but if my only restriction is no Stone...

Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
Debrusk-Krejci-Kovalchuk
Cehlarik-Thornton-Heinen
Wagner-Acciari-Kuraly
Nice, but JT has a NMC. I guess I should have said realistic.

If Staal is the 3c you like most of the realistic options, is there any concern about adding two old guys? Both Kovy and Staal are over 34, not sure adding that much age is smart. Staal and a younger winger or Kovy and a younger C would be a safer bet, IMO.

Age doesn't matter at all to me, I want players that can help us win this year. If that means adding a 50 year old then I'd do it. Kovi just led the KHL in scoring last year and now puts up 2nd line numbers on a garbage team. I would take the chance on Kovi even with his contract because he wouldn't cost that much and could have big upside.

With Staal, you have a good vet rental for 3C. Gives us some scoring depth and experience down the middle for this year, and the ability to move on and put Frederic or Studnicka at 3C next season.

Anybody still want Henrique? No one really from the Ducks impressed

Perry is looking kind of cooked

Not feeling great that Sweeney makes a big move. But maybe obtains someone like a Marcus Johansson for Donato or Bjork

Depends on how Kuhlman, Heinen, Debrusk plays the next upcoming games
Doubt Bjork will be included in any trade. Underwent season ending shoulder surgery. Prospective trader will want to see him play fully recovered.

I want Marcus Johansson at third line center. And Silfverberg for the wing.

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
DeBrusk - Krejci - Silfverberg
Heinen - Johansson - Cehlarik

Those are three lines that can play in all three zones and drive offense consistently. Johansson is a totally different look on the third line from the defensive grinder. His game is built on speed skill and awareness.

Silfverberg is a guy built for the post-season which would jive with JDB and Krejci who both also seem to elevate their games when it's most important.

28 and 27? Either guy could be more than a rental if things worked right. Neither should cost arms and legs either. Something that we can't say about Stone and Panarin.

Players the Bruins could be interested in?

Ottawa - Stone, Duchene, Pageau, Dzingel
NYR - Kreider, Hayes, Namestnikov
Chicago - Saad
LA - Kovalchuk, Toffoli (doesn't sound like LAK wants to trade him)
Minnesota - Coyle, Staal, Granlund, Zucker
Philadelphia - Simmonds, Voracek

If Sweeney can't get Stone, I hope he goes after Voracek.

Here’s an excercise for the group; make this team a Cup contender in 2 moves. Only rule, you can’t add Mark Stone. For example...

Marshy - Bergy - Kovalchuk
Cehlarik - Krejci Pastrnak
DeBrusk - Hayes - Heinen

I’m curious to see the combinations.

Marchand-Bergeron-Heinen
Cehlarik-Krejci-Pastrnak
Debrusk-Duchene-Silfverberg

I love the idea of getting Kreider. Eric Staal would be a dynamic 3c too, maybe the best of the rental bunch.

Pierre Lebrun said Thursday that Eric Staal has a 10 team NTC clause, the list is "vastly populated with all the obvious contenders" and he has no intention of wavering it.

I love the idea of trading for Johansson, but I can't imagine he waives his NTC to come here. Too much bad blood with Marchand.

Could be. Didn't realize he had the NTC.

Still would be as close as I can get to ideal between cost and build. Really want that third line to be creative and drive some offense. Would make the whole team far more dangerous. I'm not sold on Hayes or Staal paying the type of dividend I want that position to yield.

Which means there are at least 6 playoff teams that aren't on it. If Fenton has a deal lined up to send him somewhere he really doesn't want to go (maybe a return ticket to Carolina?), waiving for Boston might suddenly be worth considering.

Great timing, lebrun just tweeted this. It's only a 5 team ntc, wonder if the blood with marchy is bad enough to get the bruins on that list

You’re not worried about the cost to rent Panarin? Seems like a guarantee he’s signing in Florida.

Well, the challenge was make us a cup contender in two moves :). That would do it. As for next year and beyond, yes, I would be very concerned about a deal giving up too much for a rental of a few weeks. If Florida is really where the bread man wants to go, they can have him. However, put him on a line with Krejci and Pasta we would be looking like serious heavyweight contenders.

True. I'm not sure when a player gives his no trade list, but assuming he had to give one before the season started, his list would probably look something like this: Tampa, Toronto, Boston, Washington, Pittsburgh, Nashville, San Jose, Winnipeg, 2 of Vegas/St. Louis/Calgary, maybe even Columbus and/or Dallas too.

I think the Islanders, Stars and BJ could be willing to get him and that may force his hand.
