I don't understand how he can be so frustrating in the CHL and then blossom in these spots. I mean, maybe it means that he's going to be a lot better when he's surrounded by NHL-caliber players. He's just not putting up the kind of numbers you'd hope for in a top-6 center in his 2nd year after the draft but it's awesome that he looks so good for Canada. I hope he rips up the WCJ. One goal yesterday was brilliant.
My take is that he is playing a full 200' game as a center every night in the OHL. He knows what the Bruins want him to work on which will make him more ready for the NHL. As Dom mentioned earlier, the Bruins might be tempted to pull him out after the WJC for a couple of games to see where he's at.
For Team Canada, they have made him a wing and in these WJC games, defense is usually not emphasized by the coaching staffs so those 2 factors are probably contributing to his improved offense here.
I'm just spitballing, but having seen a number of high end CHL scorers like Thornton and Seguin struggle for a couple years in the NHL but a kid like Bergeron makes the transition look easy has me thinking it's a matter of playing a pro style game.
