Zdeno Chara, two games shy of his 1,000th game as a Bruin, was a late scratch because of complications from his Dec. 23 jaw surgery. Chara participated in the morning skate, but was not made available to speak to reporters. He also did not speak Tuesday, when he absorbed a punch to the jaw from Nashville’s Yakov Trenin. Cassidy said Chara had an “abscess, some pocket of something going on in there they had to drain or look at. He got hit, but he’s fine.” The earliest the captain can play his 1,000th game as a Bruin: Monday in Columbus .

I'd love that but they'd have to sit him tomorrow and Monday so he'd play 999 in Columbus on Tuesday and hit 1,000 against Pittsburgh on Thursday

Zdeno Chara is set to play for the 999th time as a Bruin in Saturday’s visit to the New York Islanders. The Bruins captain missed Thursday’s 5-4 win over the Winnipeg Jets because of a jaw problem related to surgery performed after last season.
“I feel ready to go,” Chara said after practice at Warrior Ice Arena Friday. “I want to play, yeah, excited for tomorrow.”
Chara had hoped to be in the lineup against Winnipeg but followed medical advice.
“Talked to him a little bit [Thursday] about the danger of playing through what he’s going through,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. “He wants to play every game.

Yeah it was right around the back of the knee. Where is player safety on this stuff? If a guy leaves a game from a rat move like the chop Brassard gave him, he is clearly injured. Doesn't safety come into it? Where is the fine? The suspension? Stupid NHL sometimes.

He had a setback a few weeks ago to the point where I think it required more surgery. I think there's some fear that his career might be done.
