If Ottawa is uncertain about Tkachuks abilities as A player (as has been suggested) then the entire rebuild is on shaky ground.

they are trying to build a team of Brady Tkachuks, so if Brady Tkachuk isn’t the right guy to be Brady Tkachuk, then nobody is and managements vision has already failed.

this is the stupidest theory ever to be given time in Ottawa sports history that Tkachuk might not be the guy Ottawa management or the fans thinks he is. Literally stupider then any other player theory ever to come out of Ottawa.

I don’t think that would be an issue - I think the only issue is … Is Brady a $6.5 type winger or $10.0 type winger for us (or something in between). That than decides if the future Brady’s (Boucher or whoever’s) are also $6 or $10 guys for us.

so every none Sens fan said no?
I think there was anNYI that said no from an Ottawa perspective, a MTL fan that said no from a StL perspective and a whole bunch of home team posters. The thread really didn't reveal anything other than fans like the player's on their team, at least at the time I looked through it. Maybe more people from other teams eventually take interest and chime in but at the moment that thread doesn't really provide much of anything one way or the other since it's almost exclusively fans of the two teams involved. So unless by backfired you mean nobody cares about trades between Ottawa and StL, I'm not seeing it. I guess it shows that the trade isn't so lopsided that fans of StL are all in.

management didn’t think Mark Stone was an $8 million player so I think we know the answers to this.

there’s relative NHL rates of pay - and then there’s what Ottawa is willing to pay. Ownership would argue with Mcdavid about his contract because he needed to prove himself

I'm confused. Brady says he wants bridge to see if we willing to spend. Yet others won't sign unless Brady is brought back longterm?

We all just gonna ignore Chabot?

Chabot is unquestionably our best player now and he is locked up for another 7 years. Don't know why Brady is the precedent when our best player is already locked up longterm.

Brady wants to see if management going to spend, but he also can secure the bag for himself for next 7 years and then go wherever his heart desires in the peak of his career. He should look no further than Nico Hischier who signed 7 years 51 mil and got the C. Perfect comparable. Brady is more physical while Nico plays more important position and better all-around. It's not that complicated.

If Brady is smart, he'll sign 7x51 like Nico and get the C. Will be 28, have made a legacy on one team already, and is ready for biggest contract in his life to either stay with a contender here, or go elsewhere.

Love Brady, but Stutzle is and will be the difference maker. Heck, Brady has a ways to go to bypass Chabot as our most important player. Those 3 will be a deadly trifecta and can see none more important than the other in their own way. Think Kucherov vs Point vs Hedman.

I’m definitely not saying no one is going to sign long-term if Brady doesn’t. Some will want the long-term security. My point is you’ll have an easier time selling to your players that this is the place to be if both of your leaders are locked up than if one of them won’t commit because he’s worried ownership won’t spend.

The Sens should use Brady to send a message that this time around things will be different and continue to commit to doing whatever it takes. That’s how you begin to erase doubts and you’ll have an easier time getting everyone’s buy-in.

Maybe. Stone makes $9.5 in Vegas which with CDN taxes could take $10.5+ to represent the same value not to mention Vegas is at a competitive peak and a world class city.

Had we been able to retain Stone at $10.5+ Or whatever it would I have taken it would be really hard to keep the upcoming RFA’s over the next 2-3 years and Stone is probably negative value on his contract by that time.

Stone is a great player but the player we would have to pass on in 2-3 years may be better. Either way Stone choose to leave.

I’m sensing an Ottawa implosion if/when Brady signs a bridge.

That's exactly the contracts I want for those players and I absolutely think a 6 year deal for Batherson is possible this offseason, it will cost less in the long run (imo he's really good and I feel is lost of the discussion sometimes).

Stutzle 8yrs x 9mil
Brady 8yrs x 7.85mil
Batherson 6yrs x 6mil
Norris 6yrs x 6.85mil

PS: This is the range of what I think these players will eventually command if they progress to their potential.

Vancouver just locked up Garland for 6yrs x $4.5M.

I think that's a bang-on comparable deal to give to Batherson.

We're all tossing around 6x$6m, but Garland outscored Batherson last year, so if that can be used to get Batherson locked in at a lower than expected deal, then I'm all for it.

Batherson's dad bounced around to different cities and leagues in his pro career. I think the draw of long term security will be huge for Drake. 6 or 7 years at $5M should do it.

Ottawa can be right about everything dollar wise and the worst team in the league, or they can start spending on the thing that makes you win games - players - and be wrong about some salaries and right about winning.

This team signed Matt Murray, Dadonov and traded for Gudbranson - this is not a team that has the best track record of signing top talent, especially their own.

We should probably dial things back just a tad.

Brady hasn’t said anything about a bridge or whatnot. Simmer made a tweet about Brady’s camp.

We’ll see how it pans out, but as we have learned countless times, a bridge deal doesn’t mean that Brady wants out after.

The only player of note that we have to compare and be fearful of is Mark Stone, and his situation. Mark has been very clear post trade that while he loved Ottawa he didn’t want to go through another rebuild during his prime years. Ottawa offered competitive financial bids as well, but Vegas offered playoffs and chances at a cup. We only need to look at EK and his long term deal if we want some comfort.

Brady signing a bridge is an entirely different situation. He will be (likely) captaining at team with Chabot, playing with his best buds, and by the time the bridge is coming to an end we should be a play off team that is still on the rise. That is pretty much exactly where you want to be as a player looking to sign a legacy deal.

In my opinion, as long as EM keeps the cash flowing the Pierres, the Manns, the players, and DJ will have this team rolling in the right direction, and core players aren’t going to want to jump off the train.

Another advantages of a bridge includes pushing a potential 8 year extension a few years further down the road. It also protects from an overpay.

The problem is Brady is a 50 point RFA looking for 70 point UFA money.

He's also a 4th overall pick, the best player from his draft class, played in the NHL at 18, is our Captain and a fan favourite. and on top of all that he's the best power-forward in the game.

Still should not be pointing at guys like his brother for comparison
Yahk was a first overall I don't see him getting 10 million.
3x6.5 if he wants more start putting up the points. I don't think he is the best power forward. He can be hopefully.

If we're gonna pay Brady 7 or 8 mill, why would Batherson (or Norris) accept significantly less? There's a good chance we see them outscore Brady in the upcoming season while being better two way players.

The only disadvantages of bridging him is that if his play dramatically improves, we can't get him on a team friendly deal (most likely). How much more do we really think he's going to command in 2 or 3 years. He won't improve his intangibles, so defence and offense is it. He's already at the top of the totem pole for opportunities, personally I have zero concerns about a bridge deal other than if he wants out, but if we are winning I imagine he'll want to stay and if we aren't maybe trading him wouldn't be a bad move.

Well, the simple answer to that is to sign Batherson before signing Brady.

Vegas is not a world class city. It’s a 4 day party town.

Vegas has extremely nice housing and golf for wealthy people. It’s small with little traffic. It has great shopping, great restaurants and tonnes of things to do. The weather ain’t to bad either.

The summers are unbearably hot, the high end restaurants and entertainment are all in Casinos, drunk tourists everywhere. It’s not world class by any stretch of the imagination.
