Domi got two games for blowing up Ekblads nose with ONE punch because Ekblad didn’t want to fight, Marchand pops Eller 4 times before he dropped his gloves and because Eller didn’t go down there’s is no suspension. Defending yourself against being punched in the face and actually wanting to fight someone are not the same thing. Eller didn’t want to fight any more than Ekblad did, only difference was that Ekblad went down easier.

If eller didn't want to fight he would have dropped to the ice and turtled and let the linesmen do there job.

He didn't.

He chose to stand and fight.

Ekblad didn’t turtle, he got hit nose exploded and went down like a sack of potatoes. Just because Eller didn’t get hit in the nose doesn’t mean he Wanted to fight. What the hell would you do if someone was punching you in the face? Swing back or turtle like a little b**** in front of thousands of people? It doesn’t make what Marchand did any different, he hit a guy 4 times in the head when that guy didn’t want to fight.

I’m not upset about what Marchand did, or Eller. I’m pissed because Domi was suspended for 2 games for doing the exact same thing and Marchand got nothing. If they are gonna start handing out suspensions for punching people that don’t want to fight, at least be consistent about it.

Like it or hate it, that’s the major difference between the two incidents from a rule book perspective. Marchand and Eller both got fighting penalties (plus Marchand getting the instigator and misconduct). Domi got a roughing penalty and Ekblad nothing as no fight took place.

But that’s the dumb part, basing penalties/suspensions on outcomes instead on actions. Because Ekblad went down and Eller didn’t the penalty changes, it’s stupid. Domi and Marchand basically did the same act, but the outcomes were different so the penalties are different. It makes it all kinds of confusing.
