If that's the case I would definitely pass on Broberg. Especially for a defenceman, I think Hockey IQ is the most important trait. Don't want another Beaulieu.
Broberg does not even have Beaulieu skills. Beaulieu had far superior puck skills - he could dance in the o-zone - and was a much better passer. I did not talk about Broberg because he was not supposed to be available at 15 but it seems that the scouts got a more realistic view of his upside as he dropped second time in a row in Bob's list - from 8 to 10 to 15. That's a rather significant slide. I have watched a few key u18 games lately and honestly don't see him a fit.
Nice prospect and all but what does he bring that we already don't have among our d prospects and young NHLers? We have a nice bunch that can defend and move the puck very well. There is no single area - aside from height - where Brodberg is better than Romanov and in the IQ and passing department Romanov is miles ahead.
What we don't have - aside from Brook - are the guys who can be legit offensive dmen. I see Broberg's offense in the NHL is similar to Petry who generates most of his chances with great skating and good shooting. While Petry type is a nice to have asset, there is superior talent likely available for offensive dmen like Harley and Heinola. And if they decide to go for Broberg type of player, Seider is a far better choice as a potential top pair guy, never mind his handedness.
