Insider Trading: Kreider in high-demand; Leafs, Muzzin to talk extension
Expansion question.
say we extend muzz. I think they would structure the deal to be unacceptable for Seattle. A poison pill like montreal tried on aho.
Full signing bonuses in the year of and after the draft. So basically if they draft him June 2021. Then they would have to pay a massive SB on July 1 and the next year. 2 big cash payouts I. 12 months is huge for an expansion team.
the only way they could take muzz then is to trade him to a team that needs help.
IF the leafs gave muzz a full NTC for the expansion year. I know Seattle could take him. But then would they have to honour the clause. Or could they flip him wherever?
I think one could make a pretty strong case hes been the Leafs #1 D man this season. Hed be a pretty big loss to let walk July 1et
With all the talk of the Leafs health science stuff one would imagine they wouldnt give a comfortable that they werent comfortable with regards to term. That said, i think theyd likely want to keep the extension from going past the age of the 35.
Bet it's 3 years at 5.5 30 plus players arnt getting the long contracts.4 x 5.5 is perfect.
That's a reasonable prediction. I'd say closer to 6 because Toronto market.Bet it's 3 years at 5.5 30 plus players arnt getting the long contracts.
If we sign him i guess we arent trading for a top pair RD? If we are Dermott would have to go...And personally i value Dermott over Muzzin.
I hope you are right. Going 4+ years I think it is really big risk. If Dubie goes 5+ years then I think a lot of folks will be complaining in year 4. But it all depends on the AAV. Dubie and his gang of CAP specialists will figure it out. I hope we can sign Dermy and Mik too. To me those 3 guys are critical resigns. and if we have to move on from 1 or 2 of Kappy, Kerfoot and AJ oh well that is hockey as they say. That's a reasonable prediction. Rielly DermyIf Muzzin is signed and Dermott cant effectively play the right side the leafs will have some interesting choices with 4 LD that will need time next year.
Muzzin and Rielly will be sticking on the left side I imagine to get the best out of them

Sorry yes yes. Wouldn't it be great to see:I think Engvall is as important as well. Guy is a perfect 3rd liner who can step into top 2 lines if injuries happen. He actually might end up being a top 6 guy anyway.
Yes but but but ... lets see what Dubie can do on term and AAV ... we don't want a 2-3 year boat anchor either. This is a tough one. I hope it is not an overpay on term.Leafs gave up 1st 2019 + 2nd rounders (Grundstrom + Durzi) and 1st in 2020/21 all banking on this season.
If they let Muzzin walk as UFA that is the equivalent of all that above lost ..
Because of the investment both direct and indirect its almost imperative that Leafs retain Muzz simply to show long term ROI (return on investment). IMO
Sorry yes yes. Wouldn't it be great to see:
Hyman Matty Marner
Mik Tavares Willy
AJ Engval Kappy
Moore ??? ???
This assumes Kerfoot is traded. ??? likely 2 Marlies or maybe Timmer or Spezza. It would be great to see a healthy lineup next season. Kinda exciting. But Keefe will get a long look at Engval at 3rd line C for next 3 weeks before this would be decided I'm sure. But can we afford it with CAP??? I don't know.
I hope you are right .... but sounds like a good planEngvall can't demand a ton of money. IMO he comes in cheaper then all 3 of Kerfoot, Kapanen, Johnsson which makes 1 or 2 of those guys expendable and actually saves the team some money in cap.
Mik is going to hard to ask for a ton as well, because although he was rolling pretty good he only got in 30 or so games and is likely out for the season.
If the Leafs use 2 of Kappy, Johnsson, Kerfoot to try and bring in a good Defensive D, they shed around 6.6-6.9 mil and I don't think Engvall and Mik take all that saved money.
