I think this would be a good deal for Chicago, grab Gagne for any cost! Canucks will take just about anything for him!

If you want him for nothing then that's fine with be but I think the Canucks would have zero willingness to retain salary unless there is an actual asset coming their way, not another overpaid crappy player aka Manning as a one for one deal.

...Canada, eh?
I liked Gagner when he was up here, feel like he got a raw deal this season.

Ultimately though, victim of roster management both times he was sent down, moreso than his play in my mind.

If Hawks pick him up, he is what he is, a older PP specialist who can score pretty decently in a more sheltered role. Don't expect a 200ft PKer and he should be fine, he can still play.

I hope for Sam's sake this deal happens.

Even Sam himself deserves better than this, and I'm not overly a big fan. I think under the right circumstances he can still produce for the Hawks.

I see Gustafsson getting scratched here and there, and the Canucks d sucks What would the Nucks need to add to get Gustafsson?

Panarin for Saad is one of the worst trades in recent memory and I feel like people barely mention it compared to how many times you see "lol Hall for Larsson".
Panarin for Saad is a different kettle of fish than Hall for Larsson.
Hawks had won 3 cup and right or wrong paid their core with term and NMC's
They only had so many options of viable players for trades. Panarin was going to get big money and Saad was locked down for 6M. Having Panarin for the past two years though nice wouldn't have made a difference in making the PO's. It was as all trades are .. a gamble .. but with hindsight it was the right way to go. Hawks are in a rebuild and have to ride out the big 5 or 6 contracts to the core.
And again .. I think any GM in the league would take 1 cup let along 3! to have the track record Stan has with the moves he's made over the past 8 years.

This is the same player who was let go because Bowman didn't want to pay him what he asked for which was....you guessed it 6m per and yet traded for him only to pay him...you guessed it...6m per...perfect example of what an idiot Bowman is.

Sam Gagner is only 29 and has earned ~40M dollars in his career. It's absolutely crazy how this guy always managed to get paid big bucks. Whoever his agent is I'd hire him!

Saad - Toews - Sikura/ Kahun/ Fortin/ Hayden
Gagner - Anisimov - Kane
Perlini - Strome - DeBrincat

something like that would be a pretty strong top 9, IMO

might be worth a shot

Gagner played pretty well in his recent call up. I'm surprised he got sent down. He could be a good add for the hawks. He could be had for a 5th or 6th round pick.

The hawks don't need to be adding unproductive salary cap eating players. They need to shed some players and money , this way they can pursue some high end free agents and use the picks and prospects to restock . Gagner is a complete joke, Stan is cheap and he is just trying to keep Kane happy.

Why does everyone still think the hawks have cap problems?

Their are a few potential free agents Stan should go after and right now he doesn't have enough money to make a splash and resign everyone. You figure after he signs everyone based on 20 million what's really left to make a significant signing. Nothing. It's time to blow this team up the new coach is a joke , chemistry and 90% of the players are horrible,

Stan should get really creative and move Crawford, toews and Keith in a package deal for drasati, nurse and talbot. Or Nugent Hopkins if Edmonton won't give that kid up , either way something big needs to happen.

It wasn't that the Hawks didn't want to pay Saad 6mil, it was that they couldn't afford to cap wise.

Stan is just a complete moron. That trade should have never happened and Rocky and MC D SHOULD have nixed that trade. Guys who score 30 plus goals and avg 80 point seasons are far from few , he and Kane where a electrifying dynamic combo, Stan blew that due to his inept hockey i.q saving a dollar was more important than keeping this team competitive. Now Stan says in the off season he is all in for panarin? That shows how dumb he is and that move was.

They could have afforded panarin , Stan is just to stupid to trade the right players whom need to be moved he held onto guys longer than he should have and over paid guys. Look at Bickell and Richard panick? You mean to tell me Panick was more important to keep than panarin . Better yet let's bring back oduya, and sharp because getting the band back together this time will work.
