He builded his team around Shea Weber and Carey Price 2 members of Team Canada who are very respected around the league. Both are old and their good days are behind !

For real She Weber is very slow and would be a #3 defence man everywhere and is still get #1 ice time because he’s Mr.Canada and has leadership.

Same thing with Price he is done but he won Olympic gold medal ect.. and he is very respected.

Leadership is so overated just do like Ottawa did and rebuild around kokatniemi , Suzuki and Romanov give the team to the kids.

Their history stopped in the late 70's and have done nothing since then and will continue to do nothing as long as the Habs keep hiring head coaches and GM's based on language. Almost 50 years of suckage and counting. But at least the coach and GM can talk to the 2 reporters in their language.

The issue is in 2021 there are less Francophones than ever in the NHL. You could get away with that long ago. No chance now.
Is there any chance Begevin would have lasted this long if they had other candidates they could hire?

It's kind of hilarious how so much has turned the past 3 week. Bergevin was being handed GM of the year by the media.

Habs are very badly built. And not much they can do. They locked themselves into even more bad contracts this offseason

Exactly! A month ago this website was convinced that Price and Weber were still elite and even started to soften on Bergevin which I thought I'd never see. A hot start doesn't change years of poor performance by him.

It's not a bad roster but the only reason I can envision for Bergevin still being the GM is Molson having publically staked so much on him and it seemed entirely ego driven. His non-moves (getting no scoring help in '15, no goalie when Price got injured for a 1st place team in '16) are the worst of it. Let alone how erratic/hit and miss he is with trades and FA's.
