That’s why I used the word “tends” instead of “always”. BTW I doubt a 5th (or what ever Boedker is worth) moves you very far in the first round.
Logan Brown is the only case that fits your alleged tendency of Dorion.

Sogaard... and he traded back on JBD.
Perhaps if we assume that by "a spot" he meant "a couple spots" we can increase the sample.Logan Brown is the only case that fits your alleged tendency of Dorion.
how exactly did we burn a pick by moving back to draft JBD?Sogaard... and he traded back on JBD.
Arvedson is one of my favorite senators of all time. If formenton turns out to be anywhere near as good as he was ... he will be an amazing addition.

Now we have the following notable picks:
Gagne, who actually was drafted by Murray... (might as well add Puempel)
and
Soogard.
Both those guys might be considered a reach, but once you get into the middle of 2nd round, lists aren't nearly as consensus so it's hardly something to get hung up about.
On the flip side, we traded back for JBD and nearly did so twice.

I like the Schaefer comparison as well for the role he could fill.
Peter Schaefer was an important piece on our best team, albeit complementary.
