Formenton could end up anywhere from the 1st line to the 3rd when he settles into the NHL.

If there is a fit for a 1C that needs speed, grit, defensive prowess and some skill to round out his scoring line (eg. Stutzle) then Forms fits on the 1st line quite nicely. Formenton - Stutzle - Batherson looks pretty sweet to me.

Conversely if there is a 3C that can score (eg. Norris or White) and we want to make our third line a threat then I can see him fitting in there. Formenton - Norris - White is a pretty darn appealing third line to me.

I've been a Formenton fan since he was drafted but I feel like his transition to pro hockey has gone better than anyone could really project. The kid is good.

Arvedson comparison is a pretty good one, although Formenton has flashed a bit more scoring potential, while Magnus the Machine was always the most in shape guy in the league with a ridiculous motor, and a solid frame. Formenton definitely has that extra gear and edge to his game though, that could make him a much more interesting piece. The way he flies around, hits people and is a bit of a shift disturber, that is different from what Magnus brought to the table. Whatever comparison you want to use, it should focus on his truly elite speed.

He won't be quite as thick and I never would have projected him as this type of player a year ago, but Chris Kreider type impact is not out of the question. An electric winger for your top 6 who never puts up huge numbers, but is a steady 20+ goal scorer while being a game breaker at times, complimenting your elite forwards. Much more intrigued by him than a year ago, as I saw him as more of a potential Todd Marchant or Carl Haglan elite speedy checking forward who scores 10-20 goals while being a great PKer last year. His ceiling is higher than I think most of us thought. Pretty rare to see a 20 year old come into the AHL and score 27 goals, after never scoring 30 at any stage of his junior career.

I like Alex, but I see him as a 3rd line burner who develops as a PK specialist. I want other teams to respect that crazy North-South speed he brings for the shorty counter attack. Maybe a bit like Shean Donovan back in the day.

Not many players combine his size and speed. Comparisons to Hagelin and Grabner fail because he's going to be significantly bigger than either of them. He's going to be one of the fastest in the league and he plays a gritty aggressive game. His rookie season in the AHL suggests he could be a regular on a scoring line in the NHL.

I think he could be a nice complimentary winger to a good winger/Center combo on a 2ND line. I don’t know if we have that but I like the idea of playing him on a matchup line with Tierney and CBrown as a de facto 3rd line that will probably score as much as any other line depending on their matchups.

I see Pinto as his future C.

Exactly this.
Imagine a forechecking line of formenton - byfield - duclair. Opposing defense will need diapers

The comparable you're looking for is Chris Kreider. This video doesn't really show it, but he actually has quite a bit of edge to his game and is always involved in post whistle activities lol

I don’t see hands or a shot that suggests he will score 20+ regularly. I can’t see him playing up on scoring lines for anything other than defensive balance. The Arvedson comp is a good one. He could have played on any line but he was most effective on the 3RD.

Great to see him battling it out with Logan Stanley and Adam Lowry. Formenton is a lot stronger than I thought and he is already showing the signs of a mean and nasty powerforward. Him and Tkachuk are going to cause a lot of teams a lot of headaches and a lot of bruises.

Great posts and all, but he's a third line winger and pk specialist. Highly valuable nonetheless.

I used Carl Hagelin as a comparable in the past and I'm sticking to it. and that's not a bad thing. Hagelin is good.

Definitely a bit feistier than Hagelin though.

Always thought Kreider was his peak comparable. I don't think he has quite as much offensive talent but he's still developing.

He is absolutely an NHLer at this point.

If he slams the breaks on after faking to cut across he ends with an open net - he was on his backhand so a little harder but once he figures goalies out at NHL level he can pot 20 a season...will happily take that along with everything else he brings.

All you see is net...then the goalie just flops over and gives you even more.

Nothing wrong with Formenton being a really good third line player - same for Pinto. You need players to be “really good” in their rolls to win games.

Weve seen enough players who are on the other side of really good in their rolls these past few years.

Hagelin is garbage. Hate that guy. Cause he’s garbage.
