June 2000 as well. For comparison Makar was a late-birthday (Oct 30, 1998). This is an interesting pick. One of the younger players. BTW ISS

Pretty good 17YR old production compared to some of the other drafted AJHL D:

Cale Makar (4th, 2017): 54GP-10G-45-55P
Jacob Bernard Docker (26th, 2018): 49GP-20G-21A-41P
Ian Mitchell (57th, 2017): 53GP-8G-29A-37P
TJ Fast (60th, 2005): 58GP-8G-28A-36P
Dylan Olsen (28th, 2009): 53GP-1oG-19A-29P
Brandon Hickey (64th, 2014): 49GP-4G-18A-22P
Colton Parayko (86th, 2012): 42GP-3G-9A-12P

His team was the highest scoring team in the AJHL with 4.5 goals per game, but he was the 3rd highest scoring D on his team (the other guys being 20 and 19). Wonder how much PP time he got as a 17YR old on a stacked blueline.

48 is good value for that trade down, good job Pierre, this might be the most important draft in our Franchises history, hopefully this kid pans out and we come away with two major building blocks. A top 4 defenceman and an all star power forward.

He was playing behind guys (Primarily Carson Beers) until December, then became their top guy everywhere. Was given the reins on PP (had 14 pp points, only started getting reps on 1st unit after X-mas. Had 6 pp points in playoffs), SH (scored 4 SH goals as a D) and even strength.

If you take their top 3 D regular seasons and playoffs you get:

JBD - 64gp 27g 28a 55p
Blankenberg - 72gp 22g 32a 54p
Beers - 69gp 8g 44a 52p

JBD was far and away their best player, and was named top D in the AJHL for a reason.

Yep. That shot is fantastic. Looking forward to those quick knee-down Hullian shots up in Ottawa. If he can put a tiny bit more speed on that shot it could be deadly at the NHL level. I don't see a lot of differentiation between him and Chychryn. Chychryn might have a better one timer and harder shot, but this kid looks like he has better wheels and is better at shooting while in motion. Hopefully his defense isn't a trainwreck because the offense looks Top 10 pick quality to me.

My best friends younger brother played the PP with him on the Okotoks Oilers. Say he’s a hell of a player. I have faith in this

Literally knew nothing about this kid and listening to Button and Mackenzie on NBC after the pick, I felt underwhelmed. After reading up on him and looking at some footage, I can definitely see the upside. Looking forward to watching him develop at UND for the next handful seasons.

Looks good. I wanted a PMD with our second 1st rounder. I am content with this.

Hmmm he has comparable stats to Cale Makar in the AJHL at the same age...

Makar had 54-10-45-55 as a 17 year old and a Bernard-Docker had 49-20-21-41 as a 17 year old.

Obviously there’s more to it than that but it’s encouraging at least.
