I still haven't quite gotten over that opening-night loss in Winnipeg 2 years ago (actually I have but still). They win that game it's a big momentum boost for the season.

Instead, they folded like a cheap tent. Did the same thing again the next night too in Vancouver

And don't get me started on the San Jose game last year :help:

Ugh those games were so dang frustrating.

Iirc we were down 3 or 4 to Van and came back to win 7-6? I just remember because I went to walk my dog after we went down a few and came back and it was tied.

There were a lot of collapses I just don't remember who against.

The game at Vancouver they blew a 3-0 lead .

The one you're thinking of happened a few months later.

If the NHL was really serious about head shots, this is the perfect time for an example. He crouches and then launches his shoulder into Sundqvist's head. You want to stop this type of behavior, then this is a 20 game suspension. The next one is a season long suspension. The third one is a ban from the league. Anything less is chicken shit. I really only say this because Wilson is a repeat offender who has actually gotten off with no discipline a few other times. This guy is trash and the garbage needs to be taken out.

I'll be looking out for your reaction when he gets 8 games.

I suspect that's what we'll see. The league isn't ready to throw to book at him, for whatever reason. They let him run around doing this crap for 4 or 5 years before they took any action on him. Now, in the past year, his suspensions have gone 2-4-3. The next step is probably something in the 8 game range, then another in the 10 game range, THEN they'll finally drop the hammer. Even though everyone knows it's just a matter of time and that he'll probably seriously injure someone in the process of getting there.

Compare to Matt Cooke:
- First 9 years of career, no suspensions
- One-year period: 2-2-4
- After that: 10+playoff round, 7
- Retirement

Raffi Torres:
- First 7 years, nada
- Six-month period: 4-2
- After that: 21-playoff round-41
- Retirement

Don't worry, I'm not expecting the NHL to do much of anything. I'd be surprised by the 8 games. I love the big hits, even the borderline violence of the game....but I love it when it is clean. Tom Wilson is a head-hunter, pure and simple. He literally skates in circles looking for somebody to tune up. When he does make a good clean hit (like the one on Maenalanen), I'm more inclined to believe that was by accident.

I guess I'd like to think, given all the evidence of the damage that head shots do, that we're now in a different era and new rules should apply....but even though I'd like to see an example made of him, I strongly doubt it will happen, hence my qualification, "If the NHL was truly serious about head shots....". In the final analysis, I'm not sure they are very serious about broad player safety. My cognitive dissonance comes from the fact that one would think the players themselves would be beginning to see how a lack of player safety policing leads to shorter careers.

The most unsettling thing about those comparisons is that Cooke and Torres were caught up in the post-2011 crackdown. Whereas Wilson's entire career has been played post-2011, yet his disciplinary history is almost identical to theirs before they got the hammer dropped. Something's wrong with this picture.

So, this is Detroit's defense this season:

Dennis Cholowski (21, LHD) - Joe Hicketts (02, LHD)
Niklas Kronwall (55, LHD) - Nick Jensen (03, RHD)
Libor Sulak (47, LHD) - Filip Hronek (17, RHD)
Brian Lashoff (32, LHD) -
Think they take a long look at Carrick from the Leafs. I think the Leafs could legitimately lose all three of the guys they put on waivers this morning.
