Florida is definitely a team to look out for. Their incredible plan of running their top two centers into the ground and getting a top 10 goaltending performance from a 38 year old nearly worked to perfection last year.
They’re an embarrassment from top to bottom. They couldn’t even tank last year. They stuck around long enough to get eliminated before the last weekend and went on a 4 or 5 game winning streak in garbage time. I also echo the Tallon sentiment. All those lottery picks and what have they done? Their supporting cast is trash and Tallon also bungled the expansion draft. They need a clean sweep down there from ownership on down. Or the franchise is doomed. You can buy the Panthers for pretty cheap. They’re heavily subsidized by taxpayers who couldn’t give a shit about the game and they still bleed money.

Pet peeve: when folks on the main board Business Of Hockey thread use city population and not metro area population to discuss the viability of markets without realizing why that is very dumb.

You should really go over there and call them out on that...... I'm sure they'll welcome "constructive criticism". :sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:

No, but I’d have to imagine that it’s an exciting time. Too very strong, up and coming clubs with lots of young and stacked talent. It’s very likely the best matchup you could probably witness in person in the entire league.

I honestly would be psyched to see a game between them next season

Don’t keep it all bottled up inside. Let it out instead. Tell us how you really feel.

I don't even care enough about the Panthers to like or dislike them, they are completely irrelevant. I really dislike their fans after last season though, as many of them made it their mission to go all over HF and trash the Devils just because we were ahead of them in the standings. The entitlement so many of them had for a playoff spot was pathetic, as if the Devils who had held a playoff spot all season didn't deserve one over the Panthers who were almost never in one, because they won a bunch of games in March.

It was pretty much one fan, and it was funny to see him melt down when we clinched.

It wasn't one fan, he was just the only one who kept going all through the first round of the playoffs. He cheered for the Lightning their local rival and trashed the Devils in every thread while most others just let it go.

I only noticed him, FLA doesn't have a large fan footprint on HFB

I guess they are still bitter from 2012;)

Well, of the 5 times in the last 24 years they've made the playoffs, they were eliminated by us twice, and we beat them out for a playoff spot this year, so we're probably the closest thing they have to a rival other than maybe Tampa, although the Panthers have been irrelevant for so long I don't know if there even is a Battle of Florida.

I've been hearing for years how Florida, Carolina, Buffalo, Edmonton, Arizona, etc. are teams on the rise and yet somehow they all keep missing the playoffs. Until they actually do something I remain skeptical.

Florida's highlight of the past 6 years is losing a playoff series to a team that a) Hadn't won a series in 23 years and b) Was coached by a guy who was living in Garth Snows basement. Think that sums it up nicely.

It was Shero’s fault for firing Gallant and giving Vegas Marchessault so they’d also take Reilly Smith.

They should be more angry with their crooked and slimy ownership group and Dale Tallon/management.

Fun Florida Panthers playoff trivia. The last four times they went to the playoffs they were eliminated by the three New York area teams. The Rangers in 97, the Devils in 2000 and 2012 and the Islanders in 2016. And as you noted, they ended the Islanders 23 year playoff series win drought. The Panthers will be in a 23 year playoff series win drought themselves come Spring of 2019.

There was one particular Panther fan who hung out over at the Bolts/Devils playoff thread who was rooting for the Devils to lose and saying every single derogatory remark he could think of.

He......was annoying.

So glad the Bolts lost, btw. Players like Kucherov and Hedman who played "Dirty" hockey, rightly and ultimately didn't get rewarded for their shenanigans.

Yeah, I have no idea where those Panthers fans found that high horse back in April.

Talk about a joke franchise. I used to be indifferent about them — as someone said, they’re as irrelevant as irrelevant gets — but I’ve inched toward disliking them since that fiasco. **** em.

Not sure why the pig farmers are sweetheart picks year after year. That is literally NOTHING to like about them.

I honestly think half of it is just people feeling sorry for them because it's been almost a decade since they last made the playoffs.
