The Rangers are an absolute wagon right now.

Shesterkin has been ass the majority of the year
Fox missed like 15 or something games
Chytil and Kakko have missed the majority of the season
Zibanejad was PUTRID for the entirety of October and November

and they lead the league in points %

Panarin, Quick and Trocheck have been carrying this team since the start of the season. Now Kreider, Zibanejad and Shesterkin are getting warm. They should relatively easily win the metro

It has been great seeing the Islanders do well so far. There is no way they are better than the Rangers though.

There are several really good teams so far this season. The Rangers seem to be the best in the league in terms of being the most complete team. Crazy thing is they haven't peaked because they have had to deal with some key players being either injured or not yet playing up to their usual standard.

Come playoff time if they are healthy and getting good goaltending then they will be a force. As we all know, injuries and deadline moves can change the landscape quite a bit entering the playoffs, but as of now Rangers' fans have a lot for which to be excited.

Didn't they make it to the Conference finals 2 years ago?
They faced like two backups, pump those brakes for a moment.

Its also a shame that the NHL decided to schedule zero islanders/rangers games in 2023, because we need more of those games. For a sport that always wants to attract more fans, they hate the rivalry so much.

No, one team has won more mini games after the hockey game.

It’s 2023 and people STILL don’t know how the point system works and say “loser point” and the like. It’s crazy.
well this season, in the islanders case, they definitely are loser points. how many 3rd period leads have we blown this year? like 10?

The Islanders have been a very frustrating team to watch this year. Their all world goalie has been mediocre at best. Their defense is surprise surprise banged up. Their PK has been absolute moose poop. Yes, offensively they are doing more than expected, but this is not a very good team regardless of where they sit in the standings.

It's crazy to think they're better than the Rangers this year. Granted, lots of season left to play. But as of right now, it's not even a comparison.

Islanders are a much better team with Horvat, but they are nowhere near the level of the Rangers. They're at least the 2nd-4th best team in the Metro, but they are held back by poor coaching, and what you said about their third periods and PK's.

Under the current rules, it’s a loss.

You’re only bothered by it because the Islanders have a ton of said losses. If the shoe were on the other foot, your opinion would be different.
If it's a loss why did the Isles get a point?
It was a tie, and then one team got a mini game point.

I don't think we're better than the Rangers. I don't think anyone seriously thinks that.

It's a loss because they lost the game. Of the 37 games the Islanders have played, they lost 20 of them. The fact that the rules have kept them in playoff contention is a separate conversation over how good or bad the team has played this season.

Look at the game last night against the Avalanche. When it was 4-3 Isles, everyone knew they wouldn't hold on to win the game in regulation. Sure enough the Avalanche tie the game, and then nearly win it with 20 seconds left. How much credit do we really want to give the Islanders because they got a point. Yeah sure, hang your hat on scoring 4 goals. But when you score 4, you really should be putting the game away in regulation. Ok, fine didn't happen. But there couldn't have been a single Isles fan watching that game last night, not knowing full well that the Isles wouldn't hold on to their lead. Worst yet, I don't think there's a single player on the team that thought they'd hold onto the lead. Whether they're up by 3 goals or by 1 goal, they just sit back and defend defend defend. Problem is, they aren't good enough to do that.

Why is it when the Isles are behind in the 3rd, they still spend much of the period in their own end, with the other team still trying to score. But when the Isles are up, they spend much of the 3rd in their own end trying to defend? The team is lost, has no identity, is horribly coached and is only being kept alive by rules that allow mediocre teams to make the playoffs.

Given their opponents, the Isles are probably more likely to be in 7th place this time next week, than where they sit now.

This is an incredibly flawed team that has no idea how to hold a 3rd period lead and it will be their downfall whether they make the playoffs or not.

I can not express in strong enough terms how wrong this is. The Isles are very flawed but a SO or OT loss is not losing the game, it's losing the mini games.

Rags peaking too early.
We're not "peaking" at all right now. 15th in points percentage since Dec 1st. "and It's all downhill from here"...

Lyric joke aside, they had a great start, but the powerplay won't carry the team to a president trophy here. You can't play Bonino 15 minutes a night. I don't care what other excuse is given for him to receive that many minutes. If you're playing him 15 minutes a night, you've got some holes and players not performing.

Islanders are playing terrible and banking points on games they are outplayed. Rags have that "it" factor this year and certainly can make a serious run. Time is always a great equalizer, would be fun to see a first round matchup. Been a long log long time since the tri state area witnessed that.

they played a game they did not win. Call it anything you wish. I'm going to call it a game they lost.
And it was the same game with the same rules all the way through? Or was there some weird ass shit thrown in at the end?

Nice season for the Rangers so far.....When it comes to metrics that i think are the most important the Rangers do have the edge in HDCF%, xGF% and CF% although neither team has that impressive of a ranking in those 3 categories.......One important category where the Islanders are better is HDSV% where they rank number 2 , which is excellent. and also have the better PDO......

Since that 7 game losing streak the Islanders have picked up 21 of 28 available points , and are now 2nd in the division.........I know some people really frowned upon the Horvat contract but he's over a ppg....I really can't get upset at a GM being aggressive , keep in mind that you can only choose from what's available when it comes to trades and signings.............Was surprised to see Lee only has 15 points though......

Just curious to see what the fans of these 2 teams that see them play all the time think about this......
Islanders fan here and can't say my team is better than the Rags. Rags are kind of what the Isles are aspiring to be. They hope that Dobson can be the next Fox and Sorokin can be the next Shesterkin. Isles spend a lot of games getting outchanced and until their D is healthy, don't think they really come close to the Rags. We'll see what happens when their D corp is Pelech/Pulock, Dobson/Romanov, and Mayfield/Reilly. Then they might be cooking with fire.
