That’s going to be an ugly hearing.
I can see why he’s asking for that much.

Hutton makes 2.75M and played 50 games with a 3.00 GAA and .908 sv%.

Ullmark played 37 games had a 3.11 GAa and a .905 sv%.

So he’s trying to say that he’s worth pretty close to what buffalo decided Hutton is worth. I don’t agree with that but that’s not a bad angle to approach it from

Hutton was a UFA signing. You can't use UFA signings as a comparable in arbitration.

Another huge gap for a Sabres case:

Edmundson gap is big too:

I could see McCabe getting up to around $2.5m but I'd be surprised by much more then that.

Edmundon has some similarities to McCabe--low scoring, ~19 minutes per game. Probably has a stronger argument then McCabe for being a top 4 dman, so somewhere around $3m.

I am surprised no one posted this:

That is quite the gap...

I don't know who Ullmark would offer up as a comparable? Doing a simple scan there were 5 goalies last season on RFA contracts who played 30-40 games.

Grubauer, $3.3m
Saros $1.5m
Ullmark $750k
Campbell $675k
Binnington $650k

Grubauer has an NHL sample size twice that of Ullmark with significantly better stats (career .921 vs .910 for Ullmark). Binnington got his big raise this season because of his performance in the playoffs, something Ullmark doesn't have.

I suppose Saros would be who Ullmark would target, but Saros has a career .920 save % vs. Ullmark's .910 save %. I'm thinking Ullmark would be in good shape to get $1-$1.25m.

With 40 arbitration’s scheduled but only 7 actually making it to arbitration...it makes me wonder how the arbitrator gets paid.

Does he/they get paid for all 40 or just the 7 that had a hearing?
