If by very similar you mean Mantha has less points than Henrique and has been much worse over the past couple seasons compared to Henrique, then sure i guess they are very similar
Mantha is .6 ppg this year, Henrique .7 ppg, Rico was also waived in 2021. Not exactly a world beater. So yea, I’d say they are very similar.

Being waived was a mental thing because of post covid wasn’t it? Getting off topic, Rico should have gotten more, not changing my mind on it.

Weird. Rico is a center who can plan wing while Mantha is just a winger.

Mantha
2020-21: 51 games, 29 pts (0.57 ppg), -14 ... Playoff team
2021-22: 37 games, 23 pts (0.62 ppg), +4 ... Playoff team
2022-23: 67 games, 27 pts (0.40 ppg), -8
2023-24: 56 games, 34 pts (0.61 ppg), +5

Rico
2020-21: 45 games, 21 pts (0.47 ppg), -8 ... waived
2021-22: 58 games, 42 pts (0.72 ppg), -2
2022-23: 62 games, 38 pts (0.56 ppg), -8
2023-24: 60 games, 42 pts (0.70 ppg), +3

Apparently, Rico has a higher ceiling for scoring than Mantha, especially on a rebuild team. Being waived didn't deter Rico from regaining form.

A 1st and low end prospect maybe roster player to replace Rico.

If ya’ll are happy as f*** about a late first like we won the lottery, go for it. Im just seeing another meh return from Pat.
So you are upset over just a roster player or a low end prospect? Seems minimal to be this vocal about. Oilers are gearing up for a run, they weren’t going to send back any player that can replace Henrique, and we have enough of our own low end prospects.

Got essentially what I thought they would although count me amongst the camp that thinks retaining on Carrick is bizarre

If you aggregate them the average is .55 ppg for Mantha and .61 ppg for Rico. Over the course of a season that’s 5 pts. So , yea, very similar numbers. Rico has positional versatility so he got us a 1st.

So a “low end prospect” or a roster player would have made this a win in your book?

It's either that or we get nothing. It's not like Henrique as a rental is a good enough asset to get a blue chipper anyway.

So we get a conditional 5th from Edmonton as well as Tampa?

At least that's what CapFriendly is saying.
I think we get a conditional 5th from Edmonton that becomes a 4th if they win the Cup. I think Tampa gets a pick 2026 if Edmonton doesn't win the Cup (and we get the 2025 5th), if our pick goes to 4th round then Tampa gets the 5th rounder next year. I could be wrong, though.

I think with the retention it should have been more than just a late 1st. Why they retained on Carrick for basically nothing makes zero sense to me. Would rather keep him
Objecting to retention on Henrique is not reasonable. With his contract, any trade was going to be at 50% retention to the ducks. Full stop.

The retention on Carrick is a real head scratcher.

In terms of Carrick, I understand the argument (the ducks arguably wasted their final retention spot). But as a practical matter, the Ducks aren't making any further trades this year that would involve retention. Sifl is staying. Vatrano, if traded, won't have retention.

So if they don't retain on Carrick, perhaps the ducks could have used the final spot to get a draft pick as a broker in another deal (like a 4th or 5th round pick similar to what NJD and Tampa received). I'm not going to get hung up on this. It was important to get the Henrique deal done - with a first - and the value of the retention spot is minimal.

Also, keep in mind that Henrique had some trade protection. So it could be that Verbeek was limited as to who he could negotiate with.

Bottom line, getting a first round pick is a win. Also looking forward to seeing some younger forwards get an opportunity in the ducks lineup.

You know normally I can at least understand why people aren't happy with the return on trades even if I don't agree but I really don't understand being unhappy about this return, we just got a 1st round pick for a rental 34-year-old middle six center, that is realistically the best possible outcome IMO expecting more is a bit silly.

Mantha at 50% got a second and 2026 fourth. Tarasenko at 50% got far less due to his trade protection. If that's the market, the ducks did well to get a first here. Henrique is arguably better than those players, but not by a huge margin. And Carrick's value is a 4th or 5th rounder. So that's a wash.

And, as mentioned above, I think part of the analysis was getting Rico to a place he'd be happy and have a chance to get a cup.

The value I am def. more than fine with. It's essentially what Monahan got, which seems more than fair.

Wish Rico and Sam all the best...they were good soldiers for Anaheim.

I'll be rooting for the Oilers now. I think McDavid deserves a cup, he's earned it. Add Perry, Henrique and Carrick to that and it's a no brainer for me to hope they win.

I guess Edm has suffered enough. Sort of a win/win. Ex-Ducks get a cup or Edm keeps suffering. Besides, there's still Toronto's suffering to keep me satisfied.
