It took the Oilers until after his fourth season to give up on Yakupov, and the price was a third-round pick. Not sure what that means to the current Puljujarvi conversation, if anything.

For the record, Puljujarvi is exactly the kind of acquisition I would normally advocate for, but I just can't see it right now. We're just not in position to give up assets to try to salvage somebody's career at this point. If that means we miss out on him, that's too bad. If it means the price goes up, sorry.

If he's willing to go to Charlotte to work with Velucci a bit we're definitely in a position to do so. We have 2 2nds this year, 2 3rds next, and some decent prospects on that are just probably going to have to get their shot in another org entirely (Martin, Roy, Saarela). I'd give up the 3rd and Martin to get him in to the A and working within the org.

Isn't Granlund one of those guys they tried to force at center for years without success and who only broke out when he was moved to wing?

I suppose that depends on your definition of "without success" but I mean, he averaged 0.58 ppg in the three full seasons before his big breakout year. Keep in mind he was still only 23 and presumably still developing/learning the NHL at that point too. If those first three years are his floor then he'd still be our 3rd or 4th best offensive player.

it's not the cheapest contract in the world but has the benefit of not being long term.

His game against the puck let him down. He missed way too many defensive assignments which caused the experiment to end. With the puck he's actually much better in the middle. Granlund is a playmaker with good hands and good ideas but not the best skater or shooter. Would he figure out faceoffs and positioning against the puck...he'd be an elite Center in the NHL.

He’s a righty, but a rumored return is Donato and I don’t know if I would’ve spent that.

I was hoping for Donato from a Ferland trade.

I agree. I told you guys that Fenton wasn't done...probably isn't now. I knew Coyle was bound to get moved but after he threw away Niederreiter I thought Fenton would sell Coyle for less. I think that Coyle has another gear and fits the Bruins playing style but Donato has serious upside. This could go either way and I'm not mad that Waddell stayed put here. Would have been risky to try to compete with Boston's offer.

The hype was insane after the WHC 2011 that Finland won. He was MVP in his first NT game that started the tournament. The air crank goal against Russia in the semis was made a stamp. The Finnair special flight flying the boys back from Bratislava had the call sign AY-7164 where 64 came from Granlund.

A passable 2C isn't what was expected of the Finnish Baby Jesus, and his NT prowess has been shown as a winger; the starting lines for Sochi had 18-yo Barkov centering Granlund and Selanne.

I was a proponent for Minny moving him to wing for a long time before they finally wisened up. When they did, Granlund finally started to warrant the hype. He would be wasted as a C.

That time of year and all... but Brayden Schenn has been held out of practice with no news (edit: see below). St Louis on an 11 game winning streak and I doubt they make a move.

St Louis has been connected with the Canes (Faulk) and were interested in Hamilton before Carolina acquired him

If STL is moving Schenn it's clearly a hockey trade; they are comfortably in 3rd right now and should be preparing for the playoffs. So why deal Schenn at all?

And does STL need Faulk as their 3rd pairing RD behind Pietrangelo and Parayko?

None of this makes sense to me, either STL dealing Schenn or trying to match up their needs with Carolina.

Edit: Upper body injury, please disperse.

These are both solvable issues, IMO, and pretty much the exact things Martin Necas was sent to the AHL to address. And if we're being honest, faceoffs aren't even that big a deal, as long as there's somebody on the line who can take them. Justin Williams has been taking draws on the right side of the ice since he's been on Aho's line. To me, faceoffs aren't a make-or-break weakness for centers. And positioning against the puck *should* be coachable, but if the guy's not listening and he's pretty set in his ways, that pretty much ends the experiment.

I had a dream that Eric Staal was traded to the Rangers. Take it for what it's worth.

Dream or flashback? I get my dreams, flashbacks and premonitions confused sometimes. Should have taken the blue pill.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Schenn is not practicing due to an upper-body injury, since that's what the tweet says.

Schenn is big part of that dominant line with ROR and Tarasenko. Why they would move him... for RHD? They have Pietro and Parayko, that's even better than Hamilton and Pesce (probably).

I prefer to stand pat honestly than make stupid trade. Want nothing from Henrique contract. Don't see much good scenarios for trade at all.

If you do take the blue pill, make sure you see a doctor if it lasts more than 4 hours.

Plus if you switch to offbrand you could save over 40 dollars per dose

You think if the Wachowski brothers (sisters, whatever) had it to do over again, they make the pills red and green? Viagra kinda wrecked that line for them (as I just found out).

After all the talk of Rod being happy with our group, and the FO being on board with that notion, as well as mentioning that it's going to take a unique offer for them to make any trades, I highly doubt anything will happen for us. Nino for Rask was one hell of a trade, so I'm satisfied with that.
