Yet another thing GMs get wrong. If I were a GM, I'd get every player who has a limited no-trade clause to get me his list on July 1. By waiting, you change the list, giving the player more control. For example, Hoffman has a 10-team no-trade list, but it's essentially 16-18 teams, because there are 6-8 teams he knows won't be trying to trade for him, so there's no need to list them. He may be absolutely horrified by the idea of playing in New Jersey, but there's no need to put them on his no-trade list at this point in time.

Again, it's small -- like I wouldn't even allow no-trade protection in the final season of a multi-year deal -- but when the conditions on a sixth-round pick included in the Hagelin trade couldn't be summed up in one 280-character tweet, obviously, the little things add up.

Yup. There's no real forcing function right now. We're competitive, playing well, but unlikely to make noise in the playoffs. Selling doesn't make a lot of sense, buying doesn't make a lot of sense, even a hockey trade doesn't make a lot of sense right now

Hoffman makes a lot of sense if Florida were interested in Faulk, but I doubt Florida has a huge need for Faulk behind Ekblad.

If Fox is going to sign after the season, I don't see him signing to be the 5th RD in Raleigh even with assurances that moves are coming. At a minimum I'd expect TVR to move out and be replaced by Fleury.

Doesn't work as well as Dr Porkenheimer's Super ***** Juice, though.
How about this juice meant for enhancing your bait?

You think if the Wachowski brothers (sisters, whatever) had it to do over again, they make the pills red and green? Viagra kinda wrecked that line for them (as I just found out).
No, it adds an element. If you choose the virtual fantasy world of Matrix, at least you will see your peen playing by the rules.

I love how the Canes now "covet" Kapanen and "would love to get into a conversation" about Johnsson.

More ****ty Pesce proposals incoming.

Wonder why none of the Leafs fans wants to talk about an Offer Sheet being mentioned by Pierre/Dreger.

If the Canes covet Kapanen, just worked out a nice team friendly deal with Kapanen/TT's agent, and haven't spoken to Toronto in forever... Doesn't that sound more like the setup for an OS? $4 million a year costs a 2nd round pick.

Got a link from Pierre or Dreger regarding the Offer Sheets? Apparently I missed them.

Please & Thank you.

Same video linked above. They are talking about Kapanen's agent Markus Lehto being in Toronto this week to discuss contract options with Dubas and either Dreger or LeBrun says "or maybe an offer sheet".

Nobody has stated that the Canes are looking at an offer sheet specifically.

Gotcha.

After all the almost daily Toronto-Carolina threads for the last 3 months or so, it certainly would be quite amusing to get Kapanen via an Offer Sheet. HF might crash.

Agreed that would be hilarious.

Leafs fans will never believe any of their players would sign an offersheet. Why would anyone want to leave Toronto!!!!???

I can't wait for this to happen this summer. I will troll their board relentlessly until I am suspended.

While I wish we had the balls to offer sheet Kapanen, I just don't see it. The last person we signed to an offer sheet was Fedorov, and that was over 2 decades ago when offer sheets were more common. And since then, only 8 players total have signed offer sheets in the entire NHL, and none in the last 5 years. The GMs are very much collusive in nature when it comes to RFAs.

You honestly dont think Dundon has the balls to offer sheet? I think he is the exact person who would do it. It goes like this:

Dundon: So Eric (Tulsky), would the value of Kapanen be greater than a 2nd round pick?
Tulsky: Absolutely. He still has the potential and value of a top 20 pick.
Dundon: Does the value still hold up even if we include the cost of the $ included in this potential deal?
Tulsky: Yes it does because the percentages of hitting on said 2nd round pick is still much lower.
Dundon: Hey Don, it's Tom....call that Kapanen kid and tell him we will offer him 4 mil a year for 3-5 years, his choice.

I know they're playing well and don't need to go crazy after a rental or anything, but I'd still like to see a few moves made. I think TVR could be gone for a 2nd or prospect, to clear some of the RHD jam. And I'd like them to add a winger. I know, I know, they badly need a C. But it's looking like a buyers market with all the wings potentially available, and the Canes are in a great position with a bunch of B type futures. Nino-Williams and Ferland-TT are both producing quite well, but Svech is creating chances and handing them off to Brock McGinn. An upgrade there creates 3 pairs of wings capable of doing damage on any given night and makes the team more dangerous. A guy like Hoffman is ideal, can score and still has a year left after this one. Not sure what Toffoli has for a contract if he's in a similar spot or not. I'm sure there's a deal to be made though.

I don't think there's reason to believe that the Canes would do anything like it (I think they should at least consider it) but since about a year, Friedman keeps on saying that with all those crazy contracts handed out, offer sheets are bound to come back. He probably wouldn't say it without some actual talk about it around the league. Ken Holland even said a in an interview a few weeks ago that they'll be looking at offer sheets and they're gonna do it if they feel that it makes them better. Pretty sure that not just the Redwings are well aware of what's going on in Toronto and other franchises with Cap trouble.

I think we should try to add a forward with some big game experience, but not somebody that costs more than a 2nd or a prospect.

Looks like NJ is parting out their roster, why not try to nab Johnansson as a rental? He's a PP guy, he won't cost much and he could give you a legit playmaker to go on the Svech-Martinook line.

Forward depth of the Canes is good enough. They're dressing 12 legit NHL forwards on a nightly basis, can always go with 7D's if necessary, Staal will be back at some point and they have some promising guys in Charlotte, too.
What the Canes need are Righties and Centers. If no top guys are available then I'd look at younger projects in need of change of scenery who may be available for cheap. Guys like Christian Fischer, Luke Kunin or John Hayden.
