We all know the dude is a fitness fanatic this keeps him younger...but I agree, he's not the same player as in years past but still a great one. I would trade Chara for the right return...but I also want to stress should we face him, I will be sad and extremely nervous watching him demolish our forwards.

His size really hurts him now. It was once his biggest weapon but now it's the reason he gets beaten all the time, when you add lower body injury on that. His legs can't recover the same way as some guys who are 60-70 pounds lighter. Even if his condition is A+, + we can't rest Chara cause we are fighting for wild card spot so have to ask how good can he be in the playoffs.

Like I said before Lidström in his 40's is totally different than chara with his knee injury.

That would be great. Have any to share?

only thing i've seen in the last 2-3 days is more Atkinson and Stewart discussion. Surprised there is no mention of upgrading D.

But I'm pretty far removed from chatter, just read it - surely someone has something newer? :dunno:

What's the extent of Seidenbergs NTC?
Does he need to provide a list of teams?
explore that option and hopefully on his list are contenders that need defense.
We could use his 4 mil elsewhere next year.

Now I don't think it will happen by the deadline because we havent fallen that out of favor. But maybe in the offseason

My opinion of Chara:
He clearly should not have come back when he did. Whenever its a 50/50 shot that you may need surgery there is no way you are going to be effective when you come back after 6 weeks. Multiply that by being 6'9" 260 and that strain on his knee is even more. He has looked terrible of late but I don't think I would explore trading him. We think our locker room is average now. With him gone it's 5 steps closer to Edmontons. Realisticly I think Chara is on his way down, but it just seems more drastic because of his injury. I don't think he will be this bad next year. It's just unfortunate our GM puts all his stock in Chara going into the year and he goes down with probably the worst injury of his career. A similar situation happened last year. Seidenberg went down and we didn't replace him. No one learns.

Woah woah. Easy there. I started the Chara discussion. And I wasn't "calling for Chara to be traded." I just asked, if it were to happen today, which I know it won't, what kind of value would he return as he has had arguably his worst season this year due to injury and what not, but at the same time he is known for being a top shutdown guy in the league. That was all. sheesh.

Wasn't talking about you at all. Your question is a hypothetical and I have no problem with it. Dipstick's column has gotten wayyyy too much play on the radios and on social media. You get the rare person around here but it gets snuffed out quickly.

If we could replace him with either sekera/methot would be nice.
In the offseason ofcourse, we really need to get some talent on our blue line.

And Bourque, Orr, Lidstrom....I can bring up Chara +/- and his scoring stats the last 4 years...but why waste my time.:shakehead

This forum is really becoming annoying. lol

I hear ya. It's my opinion that past performance and even very recent past performance has less weight when evaluating aging players. Chara's not the same player he was 3-4 years ago.

Holy **** is there anyone that he didn't mention:

CSNNE.COM: Joe Haggerty suggests the Boston Bruins should consider trading captain Zdeno Chara while they can still get value for the 37-year-old blueliner, though he admits that’s a move which likely can’t happen until the offseason at the earliest.
Haggerty notes there’s no easy solution to help the Bruins avoid missing the playoffs. He notes the Bruins have been linked to Chris Stewart, Michael Ryder, Zack Kassian and Cam Atkinson in their search for a right wing, and doesn’t rule out the possibility of a return of Jaromir Jagr. Defensemen like Cody Franson and Andrej Sekera are

IMO the Bruins are at a difficult impasse. Going for the cup last year saddled this team with a difficult cap situation and Chiarelli's pension for handing out NTC/NMC has left this team with few options. Add to that Several horrible years of drafting from 06-09 with little to show has run the Bruins prospect cupboards dry and has left the Bruins with no usable prospects on ELCs to fill the gap. What I'd like to see done going into this trade deadline.

1.- Figure out if this team is a threat or a pretender. There's no denying I'd hate to see Boston in the 1st round if I'm Pittsburgh, Tampa, pretty much anyone but the Habs. The B's are an upset monster waiting to happen but IMO I just can't see them as anything more than a 1st or 2nd round exit team. Don't sell good assets on a band-aid fix to buy you an extra round.

2.- Sign Dougie Hamilton. He is the future of the blueline and with his dip in play of late hopefully the B's can get him locked down to a long term cap friendly deal going forward.

3.- Sign/trade Soderberg. It's simple, Carl needs to be signed in the next week and a half or so. If you can't sign him because he's priced himself out of your budget then look to move him. Carl at his current price would demand a lot of interest around the league as a team could add him in their top-6 and still have money left over to address other needs. He becomes, right after Justin Williams (if available), the most sought after forward on the market for a contended.

4.- Explore trade options after the playoffs for Kelly, Seidenberg, Eriksson, Smith and Krug. Now I'm not suggesting we trade any/all of them but this team as presently constituted is just poorly put together top to bottom and needs a shake up. Eriksson makes too much to play as the teams third line winger, Seidenberg just hasn't looked the same and the Defense could use some new blood and speed, Kelly's 3m could be better spent elsewhere, Smith would garner some attention league wide and may provide a good enough return to shop. I'd rather not move Krug but he is what he is and I just don't think the team can justify paying a PP specialist anything more than 3m.

5.- Some of the former picks by our former staff that don't fit the teams identity and just haven't solidified a spot need to be traded. Swap them for prospects in similar situations on other teams that fill a team need going forward.

6.- Build around:
Looch- Krejci-Pasta
Marchy-Bergy-XXXX
XXXX-Yeti/Koko/Spooner-Smith/XXXX
XXXX-Cunningham-Robins

Chara-Dougie
Bart/XXXX-XXXX
Krug/Morrow- Miller

Rask
Subban

Focus on the draft. See where a package of Bos 1st, Phi 2nd, Subban/Koko/Spooner/Morrow/Smith moves you up to. In order to stay competitive Boston's draft record needs to get better.

Disclaimer: I get that Sieds, Kelly and possibly Eriksson have NTCs and moving any if not all could be difficult. I also know that this is likely a pipe dream as I assume Jeremy and Charlie are in Chia's ear reminding him the importance of a long playoff run. So what I begrudgingly expect to see is an addition of Stewart and Michalek with Soderberg walking for free at the end of a very short playoff stint and Chris Kelly as our third line center next year.

Not at all. People are clinging to every word a so called "insider" says. On top of that, leave it to a hack to get people calling for Chara to be traded :shakehead:help:

How long do you keep holding on to the memory of what Chara was. He is far diminished from the Chara we saw in 2011. Do we basically let him rot away because he was a great player for us or do we try to trade him while he still may hold value to other teams.

I realize the presence Chara brings as captain and the illusion that we are a tough team with this man of a mountain manning our blueline. Truth be told , be it the injuries, the plan of the organization or the kinder/gentlier NHL - Chara right now is softer than any of our Dmen.

Even if they're active at the deadline, given his track record of obtaining nothing more than depth players, does anyone really believe Chiarelli will bring in the player or players this team needs to honestly compete for a cup? Greg Zannon. Andrei Meszaros. Corey Potter. These are the kind of players he brings in at the deadline typically, and as we've seen, those guys are not good enough to move the needle.

can anyone confirm that Peter Chiarelli is actually still alive?

Perron 9 goals in 16 games with Pittsburgh, after scoring only 5 goals in 38 games with Edmonton. Sometimes a change of scenery does help.

I'm suggesting that they are waiting to see what happens here before they shop for a defenceman

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/ott150210.html

Assuming Ottawa can't/don't resign him and explore a trade....what is a realistic guess on the price tag? Same as the supposed price for Franson and Sekera (1st + prospect)?

I see Methot as the best player among those 3, but his injury history has to bring the cost down somewhat. My guess is Ottawa pays him.

I would like to see him bring in players to compete for many years... but that would involve more than a 2nd round pick or third-string prospects leaving, so I'm not holding my breath. He'll just keep on loving his "core" and his coach until Charlie Jacobs has seen enough and fires him.

To be fair though, he acquired the 3 guys you mentioned when they were either in 1st or 2nd in the conference. Not 8th.
