IF true give up Mojo

If MaJo is going to get 3.75m or higher, then you absolutely want JVR at 4.25m. Much better player.

My caution was always JVR and MaJo on the same team (after adding Oshie and Williams). But if it's a swap?

Ovechkin - Kuznetsov- Oshie
JVR - Backstrom - Williams
Laich - Burakovsky - Wilson
Chimera - Beagle - Galiev
Latta

Yes. Very much yes. And JVR is under contract for a long while

Again, why would they trade JVR for Mojo?!

EDIT: If Mike Babcock decided they don't need JVR... why would Trotz like him?

PS: I will agree with Mojo+Laich+futures for JVR kind of GMBM's magic, OK.

Pipe dream if that has any credibility but...

JVR Backstrom Oshie
OV Kuznetsov Williams
Laich Burakovsky Wilson
Chimera Beagle Galiev

Best offense in the league

I've been a big advocate of getting JVR. I just don't post about it 10 times a day. If MoJo+reasonableprospect(s) could get JVR I'd be all over it.

That said, like Laich, I fully expect MoJo to be here this season.

Well, he's not. So that's not a valid reason. He's a 24 year old 20-goal scorer with no injury concerns whatsoever. That's a player with value, not one you give up for free.

Oh I'm not saying you give him up for free. But you don't give a third-line guy on this team with 9 points in his last 35 playoff games even close to $3.5M. Not when you need to pay out the ass for Holtby.

I can't opine too much about JVR because I don't really know what kind of overall player he is, or how his scoring might translate to playoff hockey (that would be the big red flag -- if there are reasons to believe he's a regular season specialist).

Even if he's a one-dimensional scorer, it's hard to imagine not preferring him instead of Mojo (or Laich, of course). A guy who can score consistently is a valuable piece.

A more difficult question is he really good enough to warrant giving/adding one of the Caps' better prospects. I don't know..

Finally, it's hard to say whether JVR would be a guy Caps would consider because we don't know what their vision is for the 3rd line. Does it have to be Trotz-style heavy? Are they considering a more skilled/balanced top-9? Is getting a good 3C their overriding priority? And of course, availability..

If I could I get JVR for Mojo + a reasonable add, thought that his offense would translate in playoffs, and was willing to experiment with more skill on the 3rd line, I'd surely go for it. Can always get some checking center at the deadline..

But yeah, it's hypothetical, because I think everybody at this point expects BMac to sign MJ + Holtby and squeeze in a 3C if there's enough left over cap space..

Ehh, at least this year there was precedent that Brouwer would be traded. He hadn't scored in 40 games on top of being demoted by the coaching staff. Laich has been nothing but a good solider for Trotz and Mojo was promoted throughout the playoffs.

If we were to entertain the thought that we're in on JVR, what kind of package do we realistically expect to be unloading? Not sure what his value is but I feel like Mojo and a prospect wouldn't get it done.

So do we see a clear role for Mojo at this point? Other then the whole him and Bura switching off at 2LW. IMO with Burakovsky and Kuzy coming in, he's the odd man out. Oshie and Williams for 2 years and Kuzy/Bura seeing more predominant top 6 role this year leaves him on the 3rd line. I think this year more then likely a lot of Caps fans advocating he should stay will have a change of heart as the season goes by with the new top 6.

Up to arb. If he gets a lower number he probably stays for depth as 3rd line wing with potential for 2LW use. Closer to 4M and I think he's trade bait.

I dont understand, just keep him and put him on the third line. Why is that so bad? He can put up 13-17 goals if we lucky and having johannson on the third line can be beneficial as having a little extra scoring depth

If he's only putting up that many goals and getting 4M to play on the third line, and not really bringing a "heavy" game, and not really making his linemates better, it's a terrible value.

That is how I'm thinking. His only means of staying is if he turns out another 20 goal season being shuttled between the 3rd line and 2nd line when Bura is not playing good. Otherwise his future with the team is coming to a close, he has value but not within the top 6's future and receiving 4 mill on the 3rd line to produce minimally and not play physical/shutdown role is not what will help with a solid playoff run. I was impressed with how he played in the 1st round this year and his 2nd round was disappointing (injury related or not the drop off was taunting). More than likely he stays with the team this year and his play seals his fate whether his trade is soon or delayed another year. I can't see him with the team 2 years from now.

I am betting MJ's production will be closer to Brooks Laichs if he gets demoted from PP1/top 6, as happened to Laich.

Brooks Laich's career high in even-strength goals is only 10.
Johansson's rookie year he had 10 even-strength goals. He had 13 his sophomore season. Then Oates happened. Under Trotz he had 17.

Johansson has always been a superior even-strength scorer than Brooks Laich.

You don't want JVR trust me. He's at best a very poor defensive player and will be a bad fit here. Maybe Trotz can get the guy to hit...Carlyle couldn't. He plays like he's 5'9 170 as opposed to his size.

He addresses absolutely NO needs that we have on top of that.

Our farm system needs to be rebuilt due to all the graduations. Trading valuable young assets for an uneeded player who certainly won't put us over the top is rubbish.

EDIT:

We were discussing Bowey sometime back and I made reference to how he reminded me of Carlson. Funny that this just came out:

Let's get rid of Johansson's 17 ES goals and bring in someone who scores more, like JvR, who had 17 ES goals. Throw in Bowey and a 1st to make up the difference.
