I'm confused, people are already saying we won't resign Oshie...? I mean, he'd be 30 at that point so its not as if he'd be an ancient then.

Also why do I keep seeing this talk of Orpik being grabbed in an expansion draft?

The problem isn't resigning him if he does well. The problem is the other guys we would need to sign.

I have issues projecting guys like Barber and Vrana as doing anything at the NHL level right now. I love Wilson but even he hasn't shown he can be top 6 yet, but if he can what we've got right now are...

Ovi - Nick - ??
Burakovsky- Kuzya - Wilson

We still have a hole in our top 6 that Oshie could fill at that point...

Oshie will be a free agent with: Kuznetsov, Burakovsky, and Alzner. So, something to keep in mind. We can cross that bridge when it comes. But Laich and Williams contracts also come off the books then

The thing is that Wilson has been mishandled, had bad luck, etc. First he was rushed into the NHL (he really should have stayed in the AHL another season), had Oates as a coach, then he missed out on most of development camp last summer due to his injury, and then last season because they were trying to figure out lines, situate Kuzy and Burakovsky, figure out a linemate for the top 2 lines and adjust to Trotz' system, Wilson was learning on the fly... all the while having his first legitimate season under an *actual* NHL coach. On top of that because of how Oates played him as the 4th line fighter because of his size that's how he knew best to play so he was settled into the role and it's hard to break out of (especially with the media/refs and other players seeing him as such now) but towards the end of the season, he was starting to do so. I still think it's quite possible we're going to get a break-out season for him to come. He just turned 21 a few months ago.

Because the Caps have reached a point where the biggest lineup question is who will play 3C...

People need something to talk about and GMBM is making it difficult to complain

Right now it appears beagle could be that player.

Mojo - beagle - wilson.

Laich is worth a shot. We are paying more than oshie. At least try him out again.

So who's the best of the bottom 6 C's available that can PK?

No great options out there at this point.

Weiss was pretty much a fourth liner this year, and didn't PK at all. Might be a shell of his former self, or he might have just been in the dog house and could bounce back.

Santorelli can PK, though he's never been relied on very heavily. He kinda seems more like a low-end 2C than a guy you'd want centering a checking third line.

Cullen is getting really old, don't know how much he has left.

Goc is great defensively, but not much different than Beagle.

Best option might be to dangle Johansson (+) and go after someone like Hanzal, Eller, Sutter, or Helm.

There are plenty of PK specialist centers available but few that can take 5-on-5 shifts and not be an issue. Do they want an all-around upgrade over Beagle or is Latta the player that needs to be upgraded? Why not just make Laich the other bottom six center as they did late in the playoffs?

The only option in free agency I'd consider an upgrade over Laich for that sort of usage is Stoll but that requires a lot of homework. Otherwise go with Laich & Beagle and make the last addition a depth winger with a good motor like Paille/Bergenheim/Upshall. Put said player with Beagle & Chimera and let them have at it. Put Laich between Johansson & Wilson and swap the Cs as needed.

More and more Latta & Galiev stick out as awkward fits and assets unlikely to develop much by sitting. Johansson & Laich are awkward too so trade talks make sense but prying away a quality two-way center won't be easy.

Yea he said they were looking to add another peice and also add a bottom 6 forward

Note: prewitt tweeted two different quotes. One saying another addition and one saying "also get a bottom 6 forward"

Yeah he said "one more piece" and there being good guys for "9 through 12 on your roster". Talked about bringing someone in because the market dried up on a Fehr type deal.

I'll have to listen to it again, but it sounded like one piece and that piece being the bottom 6 F

Asked by @EITMonline if the Caps are done, Trotz said he felt there was more out there. “We’re looking to maybe add one more piece.â€

@ianoland: Trotz also says the Caps are also looking to add another UFA to a one-year deal for the bottom 6

Your probably right but it does sound strange
its probably just two ways to write the same thing

Edit: now that I think about it, it does sound like the same thing. One providing more details then the other
