Palat is better at 5 on 5 that I thought.

but we know McD won't play.

I don't see the big deal with just playing Halak and Vasi again. Why is that significant, especially in the playoffs?

Well, I've seen statistical analysis about goaltender performance when they play both ends of a back-to-back and, not really surprising, they tend to fare worse in the second game as opposed to the first. However, when both goaltenders are doing it, theoretically, the negative effects should be cancelled out. More anecdotally, the 26-year-old goaltender should be better able to handle it as opposed to the 35-year-old goaltender. Given the unusual nature of this tournament, it's not like Halak playing more sparingly during the regular season has any real sort of impact on being better rested and able to go now as compared to Vasy.

This PP shot chart from yesterday gives a good picture of why we are failing so hard. The obvious being no Stamkos on his side. We should get Point back in the bumper position and load someone who can either pass behind the net or hold the left side boards. Re adjust the PP1 (Taking into account Coop Logic)

Maroon - Point - Kucherov
Gourde - Sergachev

The logic is Maroon can play and get the puck to either side from behind the net and also pull in some defenders out of position. The idea is either Boston gets drawn to him or they leave him alone which isn't bad either way. Gourde can hound the puck with Point and rotate into the bumper with Point, and is fast enough to cover the inevitable Kuch blind pass and break out by Marchand and Bergeron.

Second PP can end up being:

Johnson/Killorn - Cirelli - Coleman
Hedman - Shattenkirk

Meh, let it rock. Put in whoever on PP2 that is playing well at the time.

Not gonna quote whole article but that might have changed.

"For the past six years, every team in the league has quickly adopted the same method to managing goalie starts on back-to-backs: splitting starts between their two goalies. That was based on data, data that created a rule each team learned to follow. Six years later, that same data has changed with the effect size being significantly smaller than initially thought. It might be time to break that rule."

Why NHL coaches need to revisit the idea that goalies shouldn’t start on back-to-back nights

Let's keep going Lightning!

Last game was fun but intense but we do need to build on it. I wasn¨t a big fan of how we fell back after finally taking a lead but we played great in OT so it was good to see us get back to it there, let's keeping doing it, I know B2B aren't walways easy but the good thing is that there was no traveling involved and both teams have it the same way.

ECHL coaches seemed to have learned back-to-backs aren't the end of the world. At least partly out of necessity they would play a goalie multiple nights in a row. 2-in-2, 3-in-3. It just sort of stayed.

If it's a 3-in-3, there is an urge to give the other goalie the second game, but if there's mixed opponents, then whatever game is the most backup friendly will be the one they get.
