Yes, getting rid of Hakstol and learning Hart is an NHL goalie is far superior to tanking for a player we won't get. Tanking is for losers. I'm glad they showed some fight instead of rolling over like sad little bitches. Sanheim, Patrick, Myers, and Hart improving is worth more than a pick.

Is tanking now one of those words that has essentially lost all significance because it gets used to convey about 20 different things, 1 or 2 of which are actually losing by design? Feels like it to me.

Even when Giroux scored at the rate of a 4th liner two years ago we weren’t bad enough to be a bottom ten team let alone a bottom five team.
This team just isn’t bad enough to be in that range just as they aren’t good enough to be a consistent playoff team at this point.
Also at no point during this whole ordeal has management actively tried to do what they could in hopes of increasing the chances of losing which is the real definition of tanking.

There’s no difference between playing him in the next game or in the third to fourth last game when they’re finally mathematically eliminated.
You could even go with 7 defensemen if you please since your fourth line consists entirely of AHLer’s.

The fact that Gordon thinks playing Morin lessens their chances of winning, despite all the time he’s coached and watched Hagg, just further proves he has absolutely no clue what he’s doing.

Absolutely disgusting and inexcusable. Ghost and Myers way too little, Provorov way too much, Hagg being on the ice at all is indefensible.
As for the forwards, TK and Patrick are still being underused for no reason.

Hogg is hockey-guy kryptonite. The exact perfect recipe for being grotesquely overrated by coaches and GMs. Manning was the same way, hence why he managed to be desired by two more teams. Likewise for Rinaldo.

Having Hakstol and Gordon as coaches this year is the most hardcore form of tanking possible.
There's nothing else they could have done, short of trading away their best players, which I assume even the pro-tank guys aren't stupid enough to want.
You would think a guy with two 20+ goal seasons in his first 3 seasons would be used more in the right situations

Just think how many he would have scored if he was used properly all year...
Last year he scored 24 goals, when only with Giroux and Couts for half the year and averaging 14:54 per game
This year he's scored 22, when screwed with all over the lineup and averaging 15:09 per game.
He'd likely have two 30 goal years already, if used properly.
