We don't have a direction.

We have a direction when there's tangible bodies in the system and we have a highly ranked farm system.

Right now, we're taking the very first step on what could be an absolute dumpster fire of a rebuild. 50-50 proposition. Better chance as of today to end up Edmonton than to end up Pittsburgh. And everyone is giddy about it.

What future?? We have a bottom 10 farm system. Call in me two years, but right now, there's zero to be happy about. We just humiliated ourselves for 82 games.

you don't understand the concept of direction. When there are great players on the team and a highly ranked farm system, then we're halfway there in a rebuild. Saying we don't have a direction when we're selling hard at the deadline, stocking up on picks and prospects is asinine.

Tie-Breaking Procedure
If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:
  1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage). The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.
  2. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs.
  3. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
  4. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. NOTE: In standings a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.

What would have been a better option for the team as constructed?

I’m not saying today is necessarily evidence of a losing culture they’ve developed already, but efforts like today start to become very common on teams with losing cultures. Teams that are better on paper than on the ice. The canes, the Sabres and teams like that.

You won't ever have to worry about the Rangers becoming those teams.

This isn't true anymore.

Hopefully management has had their fill of quality characters guys and will just power forward and pick the most talented guys in the next 2 drafts.

Well, they got character/leader types in the deals they made at the deadline. Howden, Hajek and Lindgren fit that description. Given that they were after Keller and Pettersson, and took Chytil gives me hope that the plan is the same for this first round. Add in McKenzie saying Gorton is looking for quality over quantity signals to me they want high-end talent.

Not trading a defenseman we never had a replacement for would have been a start.

Firing AV 12 months ago instead of him driving us to a rebuild would have been a start.

Smith has 60 in 66.

Jam has 75 in 75

So they gave up 135 points of production in 141 total games.

Brilliant.

75 total games. Those players all played in the same games for the most part.

FLA made a wrong bet with trying to change a successful team and extending all of their players. Financially they couldn't make that leap without playoff revenue, so they had to move quickly.

Idk if y'all already mentioned it, but Giroux has to be one of the biggest turnarounds of the season. From the hand issues last season and people saying he's cooked, to scoring 100 this season. Crazy.

Andersson, Chytil, Shestyorkin, Rykov, Lindgren, Howden, Hajek to go with Zibanejad, Skjei and Buchnevich is a damn good start.

It's way better than what Toronto had when they drafted Nylander (the official start of their rebuild) or when Shero first took over the Devils.

That said, Gorton better hit a 700 foot Game 7 of the world series walk off grand slam this summer. This off-season is the most important we've had in a very long time.

It will send us on a trajectory, one way or the other.

The Rangers were those teams 20 years ago. We’re the least successful old franchise in the league. Sure, we won’t become the Canes or Sabres for the same reasons, we won’t have trouble attracting free agents or work on budgets.

But the on ice problems and locker room problems those teams face can happen to any franchise.
