Is there documentation that he was a bad teammate as a Pred? I assumed he had matured in his early 30s, but was bought out because the Preds are going full rebuild.

Culture was specifically listed in the buyout tweet posted above. If we wanted to add a player that was bought out I'd look at wheeler but he's 35 and probably chasing a cup. It might be a good mercenary deal for him here though.

To me that is vague. Wheeler also has an iffy reputation and has lost a step.

Poorly. He was alleged to have bullied some younger players (including Laine) to want out of town at one point. And it's been rumoured for years that he and Scheifele have combined to create a really awful locker room in Winnipeg. I wouldn't touch him.

Wheeler does not have the reputation of being a perfect locker room presence. Many rumours linking him back to a toxic Winnipeg locker room in addition to being stripped of his captaincy.

It was mentioned earlier but apparently he's not good with young players and was part of the reason Laine wanted out.

The other relevant RFA question other than Comtois is whether or not the team qualifies Benoit. I think they would, he's a passable spare Dman that costs nothing.
