I thought with Bergy and Krejci out to start against Florida, he certainly looked like a 2C to me?

Well, the caveat is that this was for a limited time, in the playoffs.

I have no way of knowing but an 82 game schedule is another matter.

Coyle's specialty is tiring opponents out with his puck possession. That style of play can't be easy to maintain.

In the event, he is a solid two way player who (surprise) remains under, or unappreciated, by many here.

The contract put a lot of people off, and it's a fair point. I'm a fan.

that is another asset he can give you , fill in top six for a short period and he does not hurt you..........A lot of fans do not see the whole picture , he protects the puck kills penalty's works hard out there makes very few mistakes ......But I know his contract sucks.
We just had to dump the Bruins leading playoff scorer that makes a half a million more than our 3C that had 2 points against Florida. If that’s the best we can point to to prove Coyle can play and produce in the top 6 I’m not convinced. Yeah it’s great he can fill in to the top 6 once in a while and not play like ass but I’d rather have Hall or Bertuzzi.

The whole picture includes a guy with one single playoff run where he didn't blow.

was there news that came out recently that bergeron isn't healthy? i hadn't seen anything. as far as i know,
he's working out at his normal offseason pace.
There was a comment by Sweeney & Porter or Ryan in Globe

No problems at all

I’m a pessimist (last 3 years on HFB I had their point totals lower in October then ended up) but no news and an emphatic he’s good

Welcome back for organization year number 20 !!!!!!

Spoke with 2 long time agents. FWIW, both think Frederic is going to arbitration and one thinks Swayman will.

I can see Frederic going that far but not Swayman.
Can they trade him after arbitration

I hope he stays he’s Uber underrated as a player at the hidden gem bars on the North Shore but once you branch out into hockey fans raised on sports radio he sucks!!!! He blows!!!!!

Yes he can be traded. I wish I had some insight into how close or how far apart the sides are. But both sides are being very quiet.

I got him in SIM and he’s my last contract (actuelly got Noah Gregor of Sharks but no idea if he’s even in their plans)

I’m Frederic I’d be pissed if Bruins come in with anything that starts with a 1

Is he looking for 3?

Monty game 5 benching for Lauko who was horrendous that game (2 penalties and Reinhardt scores on the second not sure if Florida scored on first) and 2 minutes in on break in with Nosek he inexplicably passes

Frederic never should have been out of game 5 after being in lineup games 3 and 4 at Florida both decisive wins

Talk radio, Twitter and here have all jumped all over him

2.5 seems fair to me - that’s what I’ve got him down for

All I can think is he’s asked for 3 M

Coyle scored at .55 per game this past season. Hall at .59.

Coyle was +29, Hall +11.

Lots of LW's on the Bruins roster, not many centers.

We lost Hall because Sweeney and guys like you wanted Bertuzzi ,and that blew up in his face..........You have to Coyle because you have two centers that might not comeback , and that is turning into a ritual that we have to wait to see who wants to play next year.................

People shouldn't hold it against Coyle though. Sweeney & Coyle's agent made the deal. What was Coyle supposed to do? "Gee agent, I'm not good enough to warrant this kind of money, go back to Sweeney & get it lowered" :eyeroll:

I have always said that would any of these so called experts turn the money down. I have asked many times on this site who do have to replace him........

And in the playoffs Coyle scored at .29 points per game while Hall was at 1.14. We have to lose some salary somewhere, and with Bergeron, Zacha and Geekie, why not keep more talent on wing? You also have Frederic and Merkulov that have a shot at playing center at some point.

I don’t have a problem with Coyle’s regular season production. It’s his inability to raise his game in the postseason at his cap hit.

No, Hall wasn’t dumped to fit Bertuzzi, he was dumped to ice a full roster next season. If Bertuzzi was signed Sweeney would have had to dump more players. Looks like Bergeron is coming back and I would be surprised if Sweeney didn’t know that before free agency. Zacha replaces Krejci, Geekie is probably the front runner for 3C.

I haven’t seen one person saying Coyle is an asshole for signing that deal.

People also seem to forget that Coyle's contract was signed a few months before Covid shut down the entire planet and stopped the cap from going up for 3 years. Like, sorry Sweeney couldn't predict a global pandemic I guess.

Just because Bergeron is working out doesn’t mean much

Matthew Slater is working out and he just wants to stay in shape

But since Coyle's 50-point season, the only two seasons where he played a full 82 games, which happen to be the two most recent seasons, he had 44 and 45 points. Yes, that's not 50, but it's not that far off. Plus, he notched those points playing 3rd-line role and minutes. Having Hall/Zacha on his wing likely helped, but he also had Frederic a lot of that time. Nothing against Freddy, but he ain't Pasta or Debrusk. Either of those guys is probably good for an extra 5 points at least.

Not saying Coyle is as good as Bergeron or Krejci – he simply isn't – but your stats story doesn't quite tell the full story.

Coyle was 49th among centers in even strength points last year. Here's a list of centers he outscored...

Patrice Bergeron
Elias Lindholm
Nazem Kadri
Sam Bennett
Sam Reinhart
Max Domi
William Karlsson
JT Compher
Kevin Hayes
Kuznetsov
Anders Lee
Eriksson Ek
Phillip Danault

He doesn't put up big point totals because he doesn't get much PP time on a team with Pasta, Marchand, Bergeron, DeBrusk... but at even strength he was better than a lot of 2nd line centers, despite getting 3rd line minutes and starting 54% of his shifts in the Dzone.
