Even if you have the "best" lottery odds, you're actually statistically most likely to drop 3 spots. Same as the team with #2 odds.

So if you move up any spots, or only drop a spot, you've actually done well.

Actually, with the 2nd worst records you're most likely to drop 2 spots not 3. I think the odds you drop 3 spots fall to about 25% from 50% if you finish with the worst record. And if you finish with the 3rd worst odds it's even more unlikely to drop 3 spots. I think it's safe to say that we're pretty much on track for a bottom 3 finish and top 5 pick.

-Trade Hall to MTL for a package including their 1st
-MTL misses the playoffs
-MTL wins the draft lottery, but we own their pick
-Plus we also have our own pick in the #3-#6 range
-?????
-PROFIT

I would say not a chance in hell, then I remembered Marc Bergevin is still GM...

As much fun as it is to think about adding a Lafreniere I’m assuming the Devils pick 4-7 this year. There will be talented players in that range.
I'm not even all that interested in Lafreniere. I'd like to see a little more team building and a little less talent collecting.

I don’t see any reason he wouldn’t be part of successful team building give his skillset and the fact the Devils are losing at least a top wing.

My point was more the clamoring for the #1 pick. We've had 2 already, I feel like a 13 year old Oiler fan hoping we can get yet another #1oa.

I want the Best Defenseman out of the draft.

That is what we are lacking.

We can't have just Ty Smith in the pipeline.

As somebody who doesn't pay much attention to these prospects, where would Lafreniere be in comparison to other recent #1 OA picks?

If we are 3-7 trade for Byram!
Top D man is roughly #7
Good luck convincing them.
I like Byfield bc of the size at 1/2

Problem is, usually the best Defenseman in a draft isn't picked in the top ten. In a draft that's heavy on forwards, the best D could easily end up being some random kid from the 4th round.

Lafreniere is Canadian so he'll probably be talked about in a better light than Hughes by most draft experts. I honestly like Byfield more than him though. Speed, Size, and position bump Byfield up for me as of now. Both made the WJC roster so I'm hoping we can see both of them log some good minutes.

Montreal is hosting the draft so there is no way they give up their own first!
What about trading some assets, getting another 1st rounder, packaging it up for Montreal and trying to get Primeau out of Mon (Knight out of Fla, or similar others)? Both goalies are stuck behind guys who have long contracts, and unless moved, will wither away. They wont come for free I get that but we need a little everything. Thoughts?

I read someone legit saying he "would have challenged Hughes for 1OA" if he'd been in last year's draft. To me, that puts him on Kakko's level.

Kakko never challenged Hughes. There was always a clear consensus that Hughes would go 1OA as he's a better talent. Kakko just got hyped by the media to make it interesting the same way "Eichel challenged McDavid". That being said I do think Lafreniere and Hughes are on a similar level. I've seen some folks put Hughes first, other Lafreniere first. Personally, I would say that Hughes has a higher ceiling while Lafreniere has a higher floor. Both are simply better talents with much higher ceilings than Kakko.

We'll see. But it's always easy to claim the current 1OA is better than the last.
Again I did not say it. I don't think we get it anyway, plus Id like Byfield, hes a bigger kid who is pretty close to Lefren. base on what i have read. I know its not a D man in this draft unless we fall a bunch to 7-8-9-10.

Most experts would consider Lafrenierre a better prospect then Hughes. He’s around the Mackinon-stamkos tier of prospect

Last time we drafted for position we took Zacha... Tho apparently Conte was absolutely in love with the kid. BPA. Looks like outside 1-2 there's no consensus 3-7 which is where we'll probably be at

yeah drafting based on position in the top 5 isn't the right move.

Drysdale is the same level, if not better than the prospects from 5-10 and to me he is top 5, but not 100% sure he's better than the guys from 1-4 (def not 1-3) so I had him at 5.

You guys also need to remember that Byfield is almost an entire year younger than lafreniere lol. Lafreniere is an overager for this yrs draft.
