Safe prospects don't fail completely at the WJC.
Even if you look at a Hlinka for an age group appropriate comparison, he was not in the top 10 players of the tournament. It's very very rare that 2nd overall are that mediocre in these tests.

Both of these are true, but I'm banking on his size, straight line skating and hands to be a great foundation for an effective NHLer with the right linemates. At worst, he'll bust, but I don't find it likely. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, could easily see him providing a Jeff Carter-like impact in the NHL. I would personally be fine with him at #2, even if I like Stutzle more.

Anywhere from #3 and beyond I'd be very happy to have his skillset on board. As much as I felt he got overhyped because of his athletic ability, I now find him to be underrated in some circles.

Played the draft simulator this morning with my cup of coffee before I got ready for work:

(8) Cole Perfetti - C
(39) Sam Colangelo - RW
(40) Ozzy Wiesblatt - RW
(61) Jaromir Pytlik - C
(70) Will Cuylle - LW
(89) Yevgeni Oksentyuk - RW/LW
(98) Yegor Sokolov - LW
(101) William Dufour - LW
(105) Alex Cotton - RD
(132) Blake Biondi - C
(141) Samuel Hlavaj - G
(163) Carsen Richels - RW
(188) Jackson Kunz - C
(195) Billy Constantinou - RD

- I was aiming to stock up the wing positions and add a few more RD's since the LD side is very deep. And adding another goalie could help deepen the G position. After my picks, Habs have Primeau, Dichow, and Hlavaj.

- Size wasn't the be-all-end-all, but I did favor adding guys with size, who also produce, of course. Only 3 of the 14 picks are under 6-feet. And 6 of the 14 are under 190 lbs.

- I used three late round picks on guys drafted out of High School, but all are heading to the NCAA next year. Biondi, Richels, and Kunz. So they will have time to evaluate them and develop before they need to sign them.

Wasn't there a rumour going around that the Habs scouting staff mistook Corson for Doan?
One of the habs scout mistook Ryan for Doan. Don’t remember exactly Story but the Scout approche Ryan by mistake in a elevator or lobby to tell him how much they like is play ( Doan ) and that they were look Fw to having a shoot at drafting him... They ended drafting Ryan since Doan was gone.
I think the story is in Ryan book

Yesterday I was doing my usual video scouting of Helge Grans the big defender from sweden but one player really caught my eyes.

He was flying out there and he was a very big guy too his name: Eric Engstrand.

I looked him up and he is 2 years overrager and it really seem he is a late bloomer. He was with the Frolunda Org last year but this year he moved to Malmo and it really helped him to have his breakout year.

I really like his potential and I literaly never saw his name anywhere prior to my video scouting. IMO I would really look into him with a 7th rounder maybe even a 6th round pick. He seems to be quite a talent and on the right track playing some first division (SHL) games this year.

He has a great deal of potential, but shouldn't the ranking be adjusted if what you are getting is Jeff Carter?

Played the draft simulator too with the randomness cranked up, won the 3rd pick and instead of drafting Byfield, traded the pick to NJ for their 7th and 10th + a few low pick to equalize the pick values. Managed this:

(7) Lucas Raymond, RW/LW
(10) Marco Rossi, C
(39) William Wallinder, LD
(40) Justin Barron, RD
(61) Roby Jarventie, LW
(70) Ozzy Wiesblatt, RW
(99) Emil Heineman, LW
(101) Veeti Miettinen, RW
(105) Dmitri Ovchinnikov, LW
(132) Samuel Hlavaj, G
(141) Connor McClennon, RW
(163) Ethan Edwards, LD
(188) Jan Bednar, G
(192) Zach Uens, LD
(195) Oliver Okuliar, LW

Would be over the moon with this, but obviously a pipe dream

Love this draft ! Colangelo, Cuylle and Dufour are 3 players that I really want us to draft

Yeah that's it. Ryan. That's even worse for the Habs. At least Corson was a decent NHLer.

Yep that's the story, I remember reading about it a few years ago. Hey, those big western power forwards are all the same anyway, why bother with the details right ?

Perreault is an interesting one for me. On the surface, I felt he lacked discipline and did a bunch of dumb, me-first things and lacked commitment to D.

However, I blame that on his situation. He played on the least disciplined team I've seen in years that was the worst defensive team I've seen in a decade.

So if you do your homework and interview deeply, you could uncover a gem. He is phenomenally talented. If he played in a good system, he could be a top-20 pick.

Last time I ran it, I just picked the best player I saw as I went down the list.. this time I went purely by my list.

No lottery.. no trades.

(8) Lucas Raymond, RW/LW
(39) Ozzy Wiesblatt, RW
(40) Topi Niemela, RD
(61) Dmitri Ovchinnikov, LW
(70) Luke Evangelista, RW
(89) Joel Blomqvist, G
(98) Tristen Robins, C
(101) Ronan Seeley, LD
(105) Connor McClennon, RW
(132) Artem Shlaine, C
(141) Maximilian Glotzl, LD
(163) Jan Bednar, G
(188) Daniel Ljungman, C
(195) Pavel Gogolev, LW

This was my earlier attempt:
8. Cole Perfetti
39. Topi Niemela
40. Theodor Niederbach
61. Ozzy Wiesblatt
70. Emil Heineman
89. Dmitri Ovchinnikov
98. Tristen Robins
101. Connor McClennon
105. Samuel Hlavaj
132. Artem Schlaine
141. Jan Bednar
163. Maximilian Glotzl
188. Bogdan Trineyev
195. Senna Peeters

If I look at it comparatively, this would be ideal outcome from both:
8. Lucas Raymond
39. Topi Niemela
40. Theodor Niederbach
61. Ozzy Wiesblatt
70. Emil Heineman
89. Joel Blomqvist
98. Tristen Robins
101. Ronan Seely
105. Connor McClennon
132. Artem Schlaine
141. Maximilian Glotzl
163. Jan Bednar
188. Daniel Ljungman
195. Pavel Gogolev.

His shot alone is something else, it's already at a plus level in the pros IMO. You add his skating, which he doesn't even really use all that much in the OHL, and you do have a pretty interesting prospect.

You've really gotten on the Glotzl bandwagon ! I like him quite a bit, to the point where I picked him in the early mock. He has a nice toolbox, he could really open a few eyes if he ends up in the CHL in 20-21.
